A FILM REVIEW: READY PLAYER ONE (2018)

Ready Player One is an action and science fiction film based on the novel by the writer
Ernest Cline. The film was directed by Steven Spielberg. The films starts Tye Sheridan,
Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, T.J. Miller, Simon Pegg and Mark Rylance. It was
nominated for an Oscar for Best Visual Effects.
It was filmed in the Digbeth and Jewellery Quarter areas of Birmingham (England), for a
setting set in dystopian grungy Ohio.
The story follows in the footsteps of Wade Owen Watts, a video game player from the
year 2045 who, like the rest of humanity, prefers the OASIS virtual reality meta-universe to
the increasingly grim real world. In this place, its creator hid the pieces of a puzzle whose
resolution leads to a fortune of half a billion dollars and total control of the company that
maintains OASIS. The puzzle keys are based on the popular culture of the 80s and the life
of the creator. For years, millions of humans have tried to find them, without success.
Wade manages to solve the first prize puzzle, and from then on, he must complete against
thousands of players and a rival company to get the trophy that is an easter egg.
I strongly recommend Ready Player One. It’s a great movie, I didn’t get to read the book,
but they say that it is very faithful to the novel, that earns more points. They announced a
sequel to the novel, let’s see when it comes out a movie version.
