HT CABLE
1.0 Introduction
The following test procedure has been prepared for the testing and commissioning of
the HT Cable at ……………………………………………. project India.
All Testing and Commissioning documentation must be produced in accordance with all
relevant codes of practice of India and international standard.

2.0 Test Equipment

The following test instrumentation & tools will be required to undertake the tests
details.
A Megger (5 KV)
HV Test Kit (dc or ac) along with leakage
B
current measuring instrument

3.0 Testing and Commissioning

 The installation of equipment is substantially complete, and is live. Equipment
and System Testing and Commissioning documentation must be provided to
verify the following tests and inspections have been carried out.
 All testing and commissioning documentation, including manufacturers
recommended procedures, shall be supplied to the commissioning management
team to confirmed
 Wear insulating gloves. Perform the discharge and grounding of the circuit at the
conclusion of each test.

5.0 Commissioning Tests

5.1 Insulation Resistance Test (IR Value)

5.1.1 Circuit Diagram:

5.1.2 Procedure:

An ‘Insulation Resistance’ (IR) or ‘Megger’ test can ensure that the insulation between
isolated conductors will remain a resistance that limits the flow of leakage current to an
acceptable value where high voltage is applied. Typically, the acceptable leakage current
for an electrical product is defined in standards published by a governing safety agency.
The objective of the IR test is to ensure that the cable, cord or component is suitable:-
[A] For safe use by an end user
[B] For correct performance when installed into the product or operating environment

Typically, IR testing is conducted at voltages above 250V DC. The test fails when the
product’s insulation resistance falls below the acceptable limit while a test voltage is
applied for a specific time period. IR failure typically occurs well before an arc between
conductors occur

5.2 High Voltage Test

5.2.1 Circuit Diagram:

5.2.2 Procedure:

For this test a high voltage test kit is used. The line terminal of the high voltage test kit is
connected to the HT Cable & the earth terminal of the test kit is earthed.
For dc, the minimum voltage is 1.5 times the rated voltage & for ac the minimum
voltage is 1.2 times the rated voltage
