What I Need to Know
Welcome! This module is intended to help you, learners,
understand and be equipped with essential knowledge of the concepts
of solving problems involving conversion of time measure.

Learning Objective:
• Solves problems involving conversion of time measure.

What I Know
Read and understand the problems carefully and
encircle the letter of the correct answer.

1. If Ravyn was given 4 hours to finish his module. How many

minutes does he have?

a. 60 minutes c. 240 minutes

b. 180 minutes d. 120 minutes

2. Asher sleeps nine hours while Liam sleeps eight hours. Who
sleeps longer and how many minutes does he sleep?
a. Asher; 540 minutes c. Liam; 540 minutes
b. Asher; 480 minutes d. Liam; 480 minutes

3. Willy had been painting for 7 years and 6 months. About how
many months has he been painting?

a. 84 months c. 72 months
b. 78 months d. 90 months

a. 540 hours c. 216 hours

b. 480 hours d. 192 hours
2
What’s In?
In our previous topics, we have already learned about conversion
of time measure.
Here are some units for
measuring time and their equivalent.

60 seconds = 1 minute
60 minutes = 1 hour
24 hours = 1 day
7 days = 1 week
12 months = 1 year
365 days = 1 year
366 days = 1 leap year

Change the given time measure to its equivalent unit.

1. 15 minutes = __________ seconds

2. 5 days = __________ hours
3. 120 hours = __________ days
4. How many months are there in 60 days? __________
5. How many days are there in 2 years? __________

What’s New?

What time do you sleep at night? __________

What time do you wake up every morning? _________
How many hours did you sleep? _______________
If you were to convert the number of hours you sleep
in minutes, how will you do it?_______________

3
What is It?

Problems involving Conversion of Time Measure

Let us read and analyze the given situation which will help us
understand our lesson.
Let’s have these examples.
It takes 30 minutes for Teacher Allen to make his way from
home to school. How many seconds does it take to go home from
school?

Remember:
• In converting a bigger unit to a smaller unit of time, DIVIDE the
given unit with its equivalent.
• In converting a smaller unit to a bigger unit of time, MULTIPLY
the unit by its equivalent.

Let us use the step by step procedure to solve the problem.

1. Understand:
What are given?
➢ 30 minutes travel going to the school
What is asked?
➢ Equivalent of 30 minutes in seconds
2. Plan:
How do you solve the problem? What is the number sentence?
➢ 30 minutes x 60 seconds per minute = N
3. Solve:
• To convert 30 minutes to seconds, Conversion of
we must first realize that we're going
minutes to seconds.
from bigger to smaller unit,
so we'll multiply. 1minute= 60 seconds
• Since there are 60 seconds in a
minute, we will multiply it by 60.
30 x 60 seconds
Answer: =1,800 seconds
1,800 seconds

4
4. Look Back:
Did you answer the question? Is it correct?
What is the complete answer? 1,800 seconds is Teacher Allen’s
travel time in going to the school.
Here is another word problem:
The City of Baguio was placed under Generel Community
Quarantine (GCQ) for 28 days. How many weeks was Baguio on
GCQ?

1. Understand:
What are given?
➢ 28 days under GCQ
What is asked?
➢ Equivalent of 28 days in weeks
2. Plan:
How do you solve the problem? What is the number sentence?
➢ 28 days ÷ 7 days per week = N

3. Solve:
• To convert 28 days into weeks.
The days are smaller than weeks, so Conversion of
we are going from small to large, days to weeks.
that means we must divide. 7 days= 1 week
• Since there are 7 days in a week,
we'll divide by 7.
which is days. 28 ÷ 7 days
Answer: =4 weeks
4 weeks

4. Look Back:
Did you answer the question? Is it correct?
What is the complete answer? 4 weeks is Baguio City on General
Community Quarantine.

➢ To solve problems involving conversion of time, identify the given

time measure and to which time measure it should be converted.
Examples:
▪ To convert minutes to seconds, multiply the numbers of
minutes by 60 seconds.

5
▪ To convert hours to minutes, multiply the numbers of hours
by 60 minutes.
▪ To convert months to year, divide the number of months by
12 months.
▪ To convert days to weeks, divide the number of days by 7
days.

Assessment: Solve the problem using the step by step procedure.

1. Alex and her family purchased bottles of alcohol and gave them to
their neighbors to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. They have
allotted 180 minutes for the distribution of bottled alcohol, how many
hours have they allotted?
1. Understand:
What are given?

What is asked?

2. Plan:
How do you solve the problem? What is the number sentence?

3. Solve:

Answer:

4. Look Back:
Did you answer the question? Is it correct?
What is the complete answer?

6
