C. Soil Laboratory Results :- the Local soils from site were tested with RBI-81
in Laboratory, the values obtained are given in table 1 below

Table1:- Laboratory Results

Soil DD 0 9.98 90.02 (Clay) 1 14 36
Soil EE 0 94.5 5.5 (Silt) 21 83 99

The majority of soils above fall in the category of silty-sand and sandy-silt. There is
only one soil ‘DD’ which has very high percentage of clay.

D. Field Evaluation

To evaluate the performance of constructed Airstrip. The strength parameters are

evaluated with the help of the following Testing Equipment:
Table 2:- Field Strength Values by Geo Gauge
Average Required
Properties
Value Value
Stiffness (KG) MN/m 19.52 10.67
E Value (MPa) 169.37 92.52
CBR by Geoguage (%)= .0039(8.672*KG)2 - 5.75 122 28
UCS Value( Kg/Sq-cm) 12 5.50

E. Conclusion

1. In high altitude area where construction with conventional method is very

difficult, the soil stabilizing methodology like RBI Grade 81 should be used, to
enhance the work speed and quality.
2. With the help of soil stabilizing technique total volume of work i.e. 30937Cum
was finished in 67 days only which is very good at such altitude
3. Even with unskilled labor working in adverse weather condition and also with
reduced time of construction, the strength achieved is much higher than the
required strength.
4. Soil stabilizing technology such as RBI Grade 81, requires only in-situ material,
thus such technique should be used as often as possible. This will help
preserve environment immensely.
5. Variation in soil properties does not hamper the project feasibility with RBI
Grade 81.
6. The Stabilized soil subgrade withstood 3 winter seasons of extreme freeze &
thaw conditions.

 The compaction obtained is above 98%.

 The Nuclear density gauge has provided average density of 2.15 g/cc. at 200
and 250 mm depth at both the Location of ROB Approach Road.

 The dynamic deflection values obtained from Light Weight Deflectometer test
are above minimum requirement of 50MN/m2. which satisfies the design
requirement.

E. Conclusion
 All the test results obtained satisfy the pavement requirement.

 The stabilized layer with RBI Grade-81 result shows that, the layer can be use
as a replacement of WMM and crushed aggregate layer in flexible pavement,
depth may be vary as per the pavement design requirement.

 The Maximum deflection as per LWD test is only 0.65mm.

The bond between soil stabilized layer and bituminous layer is strong and intact.
