Maintain a 25mm deflection space between underside of structure above and top of non- load bearing walls when specified by the Architect. Other than at fire separations, fill deflection space with glass fiber board compressed to 50% of its original thickness with self-adhesive polythene strip slip pane or other similar approved materials. Leave space for caulking defection space on both sides of wall. Buttering comers of units, throwing mortar into joints, deep or excessive firrowing or bed joints are not permitted. Do not shift nor tap units after mortar has taken initial set. Where adjustment must be made after mortar has started to set, remove mortar and replace with fresh supply. Fit masonry closely against electrical and plumbing outlets, fitments and sleeves so that collars, plates and covers will overlap and conceal all cuts. Faces work shall be kept perfectly clean. Scaffold board shall be turned back during heavy raiti and at night to avoid splashing. If required, allow for all horizontal cutting of masonry to effectively maintain coursing on place of wall faces and also where any change in direction occurs. Back faces of exposed walls shall be constantly checked to avoid misalignment or tiling of units which cause variations in joint widths. Distribute exposed masonry of varying colours, tones and texture evenly over all surfaces to produce a homogenous blend and to avoid patches and streaks. Do not use units too contrasting in appearance for satisfactory blending. Chipped or blemished units may be used where they are concealed; defective and broken units will be rejected Beam-fill to top of beams and joists and around items passing through masonry walls after items has been installed. Where new masonry abuts old or fully set masonry, clean existing surfaces and dampen if necessary, to obtain bond. No efflorescence will be allowed on masonry work ‘The squarcness of brick wall shall be within a tolerance of + Smm per 1.20m. Include for all special shapes units and cappings where required to form comers, returns, offsets, reveals and indents without cut ends being exposed and without losing bond module. Mortar and Pointing Make all joints uniform in thickness, straight, in line with mortar tooled to a smooth lense finish to form concave joints, except where specified otherwise use a non-staining, jointing tool, which shall be clean and free of rust, salts and any other harmful materials, Adjust size of joints to suit metric dimension, On face of walls to which rigid insulation will be applied directly, strike joint faces flush. Where they occur, carefully remove them after mortar has hardened. Point faced masonry by filling holes and cracks in exposed mortar joints. Cut out defective joints; refill solidly with mortar and tool to form neat concave joint. Provide coloured mortar, if specified, for all brickwork to match other surrounding, colour scheme. Building-In Build in frames, blocking, nailing strips, lintels, beams, angles, bolts, anchors and other miscellaneous metal work, conduit, sleeves and inserts. Do not distort metal frames. Solidly embed anchors of frames in mortar and fill frame voids with mortar or grout as wall is erected. Leave all built-in’ items in clean, rigid, square and plumb installation and undamaged conditions. Expansion and Control Joints Construct control joints in masonry walls at all structural columns and at maximum 600mm if not otherwise shown on drawings. Control joints shall be continuing through bond beam if not otherwise shown. Constnict expansion joints where indicated. Keep joints free of mortar droppings for expansion joints use temporary filler as masonry is laid Construct joints to provide a complete vertical separation through the wall as shown in the Architect's drawings. Construct control joints nominal 18mm wide. Construct joint in best standard practice and to the Architect’s approval Mgs CONSULT 7 ines 50) BRICKLAYER BRICKLAYER (Cont'd) A Anchors, Reinforcement, Bending Bond masonry walls at corners by laying, in true bond, 50% of each of the units of each wall when walls are built up together. Tie intersecting masonry walls together with galvanized stecl strap anchors. Space anchors at 300mm center vertically. Embed ends of strap anchors in mortar filled cores of masonry units. Reinforced all walls constructed of masonry units, with joint mesh reinforcement (CExmet’) at every 4 courses. Lap reinforcement minimum of 150mm and stop reinforcing 50mm from edge of joints or openings. Reinforcement mesh shall commence two courses above floor level or foundation level. ‘Additionally, place mesh reinforcement in first and second bed joints above and below openings greater than 150mm wide. Reinforcing in first bed shall be continuous. Extend reinforcing minimum 600mm beyond each side of opening in second bed joint. Additionally, in load-bearing walls, provide mesh reinforcement in top three courses immediately below roof and floor levels. Where masonry walls consist of two or more unbonded or bonded wythes, tie wythes together with horizontal mesh reinforcement at 300mm centers vertically. Anchor masonry walls abutting’ structural members to the structural members providing lateral support with hot dipped galvanized steel strap anchors. Mechanically fastened or cast 76mm of one end of anchors fo structural members at 300mm centers vertically and 900mm centers horizontally. Embed other end of anchors into mortar filled cores of masonry units to a depth of 229mm, Brickwall exceeding 4.0m in length shall be reinforced with stiffeners at 6.0m interval B Cavity Walls ‘The inner and outer skins of cavity walls shall be built at the same time with width of es cavity shown and specified on drawings. ‘The two thickness of masonry walls shall be bonded together with No. 8 gauge hot dipped galvanized stecl crimped ‘Butterfly wire tie’, spaced not more than 900mm apart horizontal and 450mm vertically at a staggered pattern. In addition, at the sides of openings, the vertical spacing should not exceed 300mm. Keep air space in cavity walls free from mortar droppings by placing wood strips on ties. Secure strips on line cords and pull cords up level and clean them of mortar droppings before laying next course of ties. (MQS CONSULT 8 fst) BRICKLAYER BRICKLAYER (Cont’d) Lintels Over all openings and recesses exceeding 150mm square, provide lintels over openings to support masonry above. Under no circumstances are masonry works to be supported by framework of doors, windows, etc. Lintels for supporting masonry works are to be so designed and specified by the Structural Engineer. Lintels are to be of either reinforced concrete (pre-cast to BS 1239 or cast-in-situ) or hot dipped galvanized steel member incorporating a galvanized steel mesh which serve as a key for plastering work. Lintels shall be provided for brick wall exceeding 3.0m high. Lintels are to be of the same width as the masonry units and to have a minimum bearing length of not less than 230mm or as specified by the Engineer on each side of the openings and recesses. Where lintels are to butt into structural members, reinforcement starter bars are to be provided during construction of the structural members for supporting cast-in-situ type lintels. Pre-cast lintels shall be supported by hot dipped galvanized steel! angles of adequate size and strength, which are mechanically fastened to structural members. Provide hot dipped galvanized steel lugs to BS 1243:1978 to secure lintels to masonry units on both ends, ting Grout under all steel bearing plates bearing on masonry as required for structural members with approval non-shrink grout, in accordance with manufacturer's printed instruction. Ensure complete filling of voids between top of masonry and underside of plates, Ms CONSULT 9 (5 528) BRICKLAYER BRICKLAYER (Cont'd) A Provisions for Other Trades Provide all openings in masonry walls where required or indicated for work of other trades. Co-operate with other trades and accurately locate chases and openings and neatly finish to required sizes. Where masonry encloses conduit or piping, bring (0 proper level as directed. Do not cover any pipe or conduit chases or enclosures until advised that work has been inspected, tested and approved. Co-ordinate works with other trades to conceal pipes and conduits within concrete block cores; except where otherwise indicated ot specified. Where required for termination of metal flashings in oxisting masonry mortar joints, provide saw cuts in joints. Provide structural stiffeners for masonry works as shown in structural drawings. B Cleaning On completion, remove excess mortar and smears using wood paddles or scrapers Point or replace defective mortar to match existing, as required or directed. Scrub surfaces to be cleaned using a non-acid cleaning solution of type which will not harm constructed masonry. Check with masonry unit manufacturer for acceptable cleaning solution. Clean a trial test area and obtain approval from the Architect to proceed, Use copious amounts of water and do cleaning in accordance with solution manufacturer's instructions. Repeat cleaning operations until work is satisfactory and accepted by the Architect. C Protéction of Face Work Face work shall be irnpregnated with anti-fungus growth surface preservatives in strict accordance to manufacturer's instruction unless specified otherwise. Use materials to match existing work. Fill openings in existing work adjacent to new and demolished masonry construction, svhenever required, in accordance with good workmanship. Use materials to match existing work, Fill openings in existing masonry walls where indicated. Tooth new masonry in with existing masonry walls. B Building in Cramps, Bonding Ties, ete Provide where brickwork or blockwork abuts concrete column 6mm diameter mild steel ponding ties 450mm girth, hooked both ends, one end cast into concrete column and other end built into brickwork or blockwork at every fourth course. Build in mild steel fixing cramps of the type and size described or shown on Drawings for doors and window frames. The cramp shall be bent one end, drilled and screwed to back of frame and the other end fanged and built into brickwork at 600mm centres. Build in and bed in mortar all plates, templates and frames. Rake out joints to receive flashings and weathering, and point up upon completion. Ms CONSULT n pest tay BRICKLAYER BRICKLAYER (Cont Cement Sand Bricks ‘The cement shall be as described in “Concrete and concreting” B Sand ‘The sand for mortar shall comply with the requirement of BS 1200:1976, be well graded from Smm down and shall be clean, sharp, fresh water river/mining sand approved by the Architect, fiee from clay and other impurities and shall be washed and/or sereened if required by the Architect. Cc Plast The plasticiser for mortar shall comply with BS 4887:1973 and from approved type and used in accordance with the mannfacturer’s instruction. D Gauged Mortar Gauged mortar shall be composed of one part of cement and six parts of sand for work above damp-proof course, and one part of cement and three paris of sand for work below damp-proof course, mixed as described for conerete and with the addition of mortar plasticiser of an approved type used strictly in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. The sand shall be as described hereinbefore and the maximum size shall pass through 4.8mm mesh BS sieve ‘The cement used shall be ordinary Portland cement as described under “Concrete and conereting”. Pointing Of Brickwork ‘Where brickwork is described as pointed, it shall mean that all joints are to be pointed in (1:3) cement and sand to form a finished flush joint all to the Architect’s approval Brick Reinforcement ‘The reinforcement for brick and block walls shall be 22 gauge approved expanded metal 2 yy wide for 4%" thick wall laid with lapped joints to comply with the recommendations of the manufacturer and the rated for brick walls shall include for building in the reinforcement at every fourth course. Ms CONSULT B BRICKLAYER BRICKLAYER (Cont'd) Cement Sand Bricks (Cont'd) Horizontal Damp-Proof Course ‘The bituminous sheet damp-proof course for the full thickness over the whole of the ‘walls shall comply with BS 743 weighting not less than 7 Ibs. per yard super. It shall have 6” minimum lap at all joints and angles. Damp-proof course shall be laid not less than 6” above the finish ground floor level, on a level bed of cement mortar as described and neatly pointed where exposed. Damp proof course shall be of the Hessian-based lead foil type and shall comply with the requirements of BS 743, Type SD (weighing not less than 3.8kg/m2),It shall have 225mm minimum laps at joints and 100mm laps at angles and shall be laid on 25mm bed of cement mortar (1:1) and coated on the upper surface with hot bitumen. Vertical Damp-Proof ‘The waterproof cement (vertical) damp-proof course shall unless otherwise described, consist of water repellent cement and sand mixed as described for cement mortar but in the proportions of one part water repellent to two parts sand, by applied 4 thick and trowelled smooth. Yy MQS CONSULT “w (18 20) G PAVIOR PAVIOR INSITU CEMENT AND SAND PAVINGS Cement ‘The cement shall be as previously described in ‘CONCRETOR’. Sand ‘The sand shall comply in all respects with B.S. 1199 and shall be well graded from ‘Smm in accordance with TABLE 1 therein. Water ‘The water shall be as previously described in ‘CONCRETOR’, Mortar Mixx Unless otherwise stated the cement and sand pavings shall be composed of one part of cement and three parts clean washed sand measured in proper gauge boxes. Mortar shall not be used two (2) hours after mixing. Skintings Skirting shall be projected with rounded top edge and small radius cove at junction with paving. Workmanship Generally All pavings shall be mixed in an approved mechanical mixer. The mix shall be laid before the initial set has taken place. ‘The water content of the mix must be only the minimum required to give a workéble mix. The paving must be thoroughly rammed within thirty minutes of laying and the surface trowelling must be delayed until the paving is stiffened sufficiently to prevent Iaitance being brought to the surface by the trowels. ‘The paving shail be rubbed down if necessary, to produce a smooth even surface. Preparation Of Base The concrete sub-floor shall be brushed with a stiff broom to remove laitance and to give a roughened surface of alternatively, shall be hacked at the contractor's expense to provide a suitable key. Walls shall be similarly keyed if required MQs CONSULT 1 osu 00) | PAVIOR 1a) INSITU CEMENT AND SAND PAVINGS (Cont'd) Waterproofing to Conercte Slab [All of the concrete surfaces to receive waterproofing, whether flexible sheet and brush or spray-applied coatings shall be finished smooth. Surfaces shall be dry and clean, free from oil, efflorescence and surface laitance. Ensure that all pipe, pipe sleeves and joint between wall and floor are installed with a continuous angle fillet (25 x 25mm) and ready for waterproofing. Waterproofing shall be the proprietary system described or shown on the Drawings Application shall be carried out by approved specialist applicators, strictly in ‘accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications. “The membrane shall be turned up at the kerbs and parapets at minimum 300mm and turned into a sealing chase and pointed with sealant or mastic. For wet area adjoining to dry area, the membrane should extend 150mm from the wet area into the concrete slab in adjoining dry area. Membrane should be dressed up at pipe penetrations to the finished floor level and dressed down to at least 50mm into the floor outlet. Provide membrane collars, sleeves, ete. at areas where pipes, conduits, etc. are found ‘and properly seal and ensure water tightness to manufacturer's details. As a proteetive measure against damaging the membrane during tiling, a layer of sereed or plaster should be laid over the membrane after the curing of the membrane. “The Contractor shall jointly with the manufacturer provide a Standard Waterproofing Guarantee for a minimum ten years against failure of any kind, viz. leaks, ete. on the stipulated terms and conditions. MQS.CONSULT 2 PAVIOR PAVI ‘ont’ INSITU CEMENT AND SAND PAVINGS (Cont'd) Laying Pavings shall be laid monolithic with the concrete sub-base whilst it is still green and trowelled smooth. Pavings shall be laid in alternate bays not exceeding 11 square metre unless otherwise directed by the Architect. If the concrete sub-floor has been laid in bays, then the joints of the paving must occur exactly above the joints of the sub-floor. Paving Thicknessess “The thicknesses of pavings as specified are deemed to be nett finished thicknesses and the Contractor is to allow for filling up depressions, indentations, making good uneven surfaces, etc, to a level surface. Where pavings are laid to falls and/or currents, at no place should the minimum thickness to be less than 12mm. Surface to receive tile shall be even and levelled to proper falls in wet area like kitchen and toilet. Curing ‘All pavings, shall be cured for at least seven (7) days. During this period, the pavings shall be kept damp by covering with 25mm layer of wet sand or gunny sacks and shall be kept free from traffic. Waterproofed Cement And Sand Screed Where described as waterproofed cement and sand screed, the waterproofing admixtures shall be approved by the Architect and to be used strictly in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Vitreous Mosaic Tile Paving ‘Mosaic tile paving and skirting are to be executed by a specialist who is approved by the Architect. It is to be noted that the Contractor is fully responsible for these works and any inferior or defective materials and/or faulty workmanship will not be accepted ‘and shall be made good andior re-executed entirely at the Contractor's own expense. MQS CONSULT 3 pees 0) PAVIOR PAVIOR (Cont'd) Vitreous Mosaic Tile Paving (Cont'd) ‘The mosaic tiles shall be 25mm x 25mm x 4.5mm thick semi-glazed tiles of selected colour and pattern. Tiles shall be regular machine made even and consistent in size, colour and texture with sharp, well defined arises, free from cracks, chips and blemishes and shall be obtained from an approved manufacturer Clean off all dirt, stains, etc. make good/or replace all damaged and defective tiles and polish with hydrochloric acid to an approved finish. Skirting shall match pavings with square top edges and 45° angles tiles at junctions with paving. Risers shall have rounded top edge formed with coved tiles and 45° angle tiles at junction between risers and treads. mber Strip Flooring. ‘Timber Strip flooring shall be constructed of 8mm thick kiln dried tanalised Kempas, Keranji or Meranti 100mm x 900mm ~ 1200mm butt jointed tiles fixed and jointed with ‘Durabond? glue or other equal and approved for installation. Samples of the tiles shall be submitted for approval by the Architect as and when directed. All samples which are approved shall indicate the standard to be maintained in the execution of the Works. The tiles shall be regular machine made, even and consistent in size with sharp well defined arrises, matching colour, texture and grain and free from splits, chips and blemishes. No tiles shall be laid until the base surface is completely dry, clean and free of loose material to provide a good keyed surface to receive the tiles. ‘The screeded surface to receive the tiles shall be finished with a steel float and must absolutely level. The tiles shall be laid to an approved pattern with an approved adhesive. Polishing of the flooring is to be carried out by a mechanical polisher with graded abrasives, All defects, blemishes, etc. shall be made good with approved filler; all damaged, stained or discoloured tiles shall be replaced. Unless otherwise stated, all parquet flooring shall be wice wax polished with an approved floor polish ani to an approved finish. ‘Vinyl Asbestos Floor Tiling Vinyl asbestos floor tiles shall be 300mm x 300m x 2mm thick tiles to BS. 3260:1969 to a colour and pattern to be selected by the Architect MQS CONSULT 4 esse 20 PAVIOR PAYVIOR (Cont'd) Vinyl Asbestos Floor Tiling (Cont'd) ‘Tiles shall be regular machine made and cut, even and consistent in size with sharp well defined arrises and matching colour and texture. The tiles shall be glued to the base with an approved adhesive. No tile shall be laid until the base surface is completely dry, clean and free from loose. materials to provide a good keyed surface to receive the tiles. The screed surface to receive the tiles shall be finished with a steel float and must be absolutely level. Unless otherwise stated, the tiled surface shall be twice wax polished with an approved polish on completion. ‘A AnicStatic Vinyl Sheet Flooring ‘Anti-static vinyl sheet flooring to be executed by a specialist who is approved by the ‘Architect. It is to be noted that the Contractor is fully responsible for these works and any inferior or defective materials and/or faulty workmanship will not be accepted and shall be made good and/or re-executed entirely at the Contractor’s own expenses. ‘The anti-static vinyl sheet shall have sufficient electrical resistance to give protection against electrical shock. Colour to be selected by the Architect, ‘The anti-static vinyl sheet shall be homogeneous and flexible. The sheets shall be glued to the base with an approved adhesive, welded to give a uniform, jointless, dust free, watertight surface all in accordance with manufacturer's instructions. ERAMIC TILE B Generally Homogeneous heavy duty and fully glazed ceramic tiles, unless otherwise described, shall be obtained from approved Jocal manufacturer. Coloured fully glazed ceramic tiles shall be approved tiles with colour to Architect's approval The Contractor shall submit manufacturer's instructions and recommendations for installation of tiles, use of mortars, grout, adhesives, ete. for the Architect's information. Wall tiling shall be carried out in accordance with B.S. 5385 Part 1 & 2 Floor tiling shall be carried out in accordance with C.P. 202 MQS CONSULT 5 esau. 2) PAVIOR Samples The Contractor shall provide one full size sample of each type of tile and accessory (if any) for the Architect’s approval. All tiles used in the project shall be at least of equal standard to the approved sample. For each type of tiling the Contractor shall install a control sample, in a location and of a size to be agreed, in an area of the finished work, in advance of the remainder. ‘When approved this sample shall set a standard for the remainder of the work and any work not conforming with the control samples will be rejected. Allowable Tolerances i) Wall tiling: maximum permissible gap under a 2m straight edge shall be 3mm. ii) Floor tiling: maximum permissible gap under a 3m straight edge shall be 3mm: Product Delivery, Storage And Handling Handle and store tiles to prevent damage and soiling. Keep in manufacturer’s cartons until required for fixing. Environmental Requirements Tiluminate internal surfaces during work and inspection to closely resemble illumination provided by permanent installation Setting Materials i) Mortar/Sturry Constituents, mixes and mixing shall be as specified for mortar in Brickwork and Blockwork Section. ii) Sealant ‘To BS. 5385: Part 1 or a type as recommended for the specific purpose by the manufacturer. MQs CONSULT 6 asec eg PAVIOR PAVIOR (Cont'd) CERAMIC TILES (Cont'd) ‘A Sointing Materials i) Grout + White Portland cement mixed to a creamy consistency with portable water and, where required, coloured as specified and to approval. Sealant : Silicone sealant and fillers as specified in concrete work section. Colour shall match adjacent surfaces and for traffic areas shall have Shore A hardness greater than 35. B Acceptance Of Base Before fixing tiling ensure that background or base is adequately true and level to achieve the specified tolerances and is adequately prepared and cleaned to give a good bond. c Drying Out Before fixing wall tiles ensure that plaster backgrounds are properly dried out and cured, Before laying floor tiles ensure conerete base had been allowed to dry to exposure to air for not less than:- i) Slab: 4 weeks ii) Screeds (ifany) + a further 2 weeks D Setting Out Set out tiling so that cut tiles are kept to a minimum and, where they do occur, are as large as possible. Locate cuts so that they are as inconspicuous as possible. Wall tiles shall be set out so that joints are horizontal and vertical, horizontal joints in adjacent walls shall align. Patterned floor tiles shall be set out square with the axis of the room, with joints lining, up. Perimeter tiles shall be not less than half tile size and of equal size at opposite walls. Surfaces to which wall tiles are to be fixed by direct mortar bedding shall be prepared as follows: 1) Concrete: hack surface to 3mm depth ii) Brickwork/Blockwork : Rake out joints to 13mm depth B Preparation Of Tiles Tiles to be fixed with mortar shall, unless otherwise recommended by the manufacturer, be immersed in clean, potable water for 24 hours or until saturated, then stacked lightly together to drain. Lay as soon as surface water has drained. C Installation Generally Follow strictly the manufacturer's instructions for all products and materials. Cut and fix tiling carefully to form a neat closed joint where it abuts frames, other tiling or around pipes and the like. Open irregular joints filled with mortar or plaster will not be accepted. D Fixing Wall Tiling With Mortar Fill any deep keys and evenly butter the entire back of each tile with cement : sand mortar (I:3 - 4) to give a finished bed thickness generally of at least 6mm. Place tiles, and tap firmly into position. Fix tiles to give as far as possible, solid bedding under the whole tile and adhesion over the whole background and tile back. E Fixing Wall Tiling With Adhesive Apply adhesive to dry background as a continuous float. ‘Trowel surface with a notched trowel recommended by the adhesive manufacturer. Press dry tiles firmly onto adhesive with twisting/sliding action. Fix tiles to give, as far as possible, solid bedding under the whole tile and adhesive over the whole of the background and tile back. Lightly dust mortar bed with dry cement and trowel level until damp. Overlay compacted bedding with 2-3mm thick slurry. Butter backs of tiles with neat cement slurry 2-3mm thick, Lay tiles without delay and before initial set of bedding materials. Firmly beat down into bedding to form even surface. Fixing Floor Tiling Adhesive Evenly butter backs of tiles with adhesive to give a finished bed thickness not exceeding 3mm. Lay tiles within time recommended by the adhesive manufacturer. Firmly tamp dry tiles into bedding to give adhesion over the whole surface of the base and tile. Jointing And Finishing Carry out jointing to wall tiling after bedding has sufficiently set to prevent disturbance of tiles. Carry out jointing to floor tiling between 16 and 32 hours after laying. Joints shall be truly aligned and even. Joints shall be of the widths indicated on the drawings, or as recommended by the manufacturer. Grout shall be worked well into joints so that they are completely filled, or to the depth indicated on the drawings. Finish joints flush, or recessed as indicated. Movement joints shall be located as shown on the Architectural Drawings and shall carry through the full depth of the tile and bedding to the structure, Partially fill with filler and finish with sealant to manufacturer's recommendations. ‘Allowance tolerance for jointing and finishing shall be as follows:~ 28) Tiles joints shall be maximum 3mm or otherwise stated by the Architect. ‘b) Eveness of surfaces at 3mm / 1.20m 0) Tile size is consistent within 1% or up to 3mm d) Verticality of wall at 3mm / 1.0m €) Squareness of wall at 4mm / 300mm PAVIOR PAVIOR (Cont CERAMIC TILES (Cont'd) A Cleaning Off Do not remove surplus bedding mortar during first 2 hours after tiles are fixed, then carefully clean off without disturbing tiles. Clean off surplus grout as work proceeds using a damp cloth. Clean and polish tiles on completion B Protection Do not allow water onto new tiling until bedding and jointing have completely set. ‘Allow no traffic on flooring until 4 days after completion of laying and jointing and then only light traffic for a further 10 days. C Sundry Labours Plaster, screeds, paving and tiling are to be neatly made good around pipes, brackets, stays, etc. Where plaster etc. has to be cut away from these, the hole is to be formed to a regular outline, with the edges of the plaster undercut to form a key, the plaster in making good is to be finished Aush with the surrounding plaster and Tater rubbed down, ‘Screeds and pavings are to be formed to channels is required and dished to outlets. D Protection No traffic is to be allowed on any paving until it has set or hardened sufficiently to allow this without damage. All pavings are to be covered up and protected to the satisfaction of the Architect. ‘The contractor shall take all nevessary precautions to prevent the damage to the completed tiling work due to any disturbance. E Marble slabs Unless otherwise indicated in the drawings or Bills of Quantities, marble shall be selected and approved 20mm thick marble slab. It shall be hand-placed to pattern with interstices filled in with matching coloured cement and bedded on 25mm thick (or ‘other approved thickness) cement and sand (1:3) base screed. The paving shall be cured for at least 7 days and during the curing period the paving shall be kept damp by covering with 35mm layer of wet sand or gunny sacks and shall be Kept free from traffic. On completion of laying and curing, all surfaces shall be thoroughly cleaned off of dirt, stains, etc, all damage and discoloured areas shall be replaced. MQ8 CONSULT 10 abu 07sec) PAVIOR PAVIOR (Cont'd) CERAMIC TILES (Cont'd) ‘Marble slabs (Cont'd) Polishing shall be carried out by a mechanical polisher with graded polishing adhesive and any necessary water to a mirror finish., the final polishing shall only carried out just prior to handling over the Works to the Employer or as instructed by the ‘Architect/S.O. all inter angles, coves and other areas where mechanical polishing is not possible shall be rubbed by hand with carborundum block to a similar finish, Carpet Carpet flooring to be executed by a specialist who is approved by the Architect. It is to be noted that the Contractor is fully responsible for these works and an inferior or defective materials and/or faulty workmanship will not be accepted and shall be made good and/or re-executed entirely at the Contractor’s own expenses. ‘The carpet shall be glued fo the base with an approved adhesive all in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. No carpet shall be laid until the base surface is completely dry, clean and fice of dust, oil, grease, polish, loose materials or other separating agents. The screed surface to receive the carpet must be smooth and level. The carpet shall have a ten (10) years wear guarantee. The Contractor shall be responsible for arranging and procuring the said guarantee. FLOOR HARDENER Generally ‘The whole of the floor hardener paving work shall be executed by a specialist contractor approved by the Architect and the material must be supplied by a specialist supplier approved by the Architect, Material And Application ‘The floor hardening system shall be of dry mix impregnation monolithic construction consisting of a fused blend of both genuine non-metallic and non-oxidisable metallic aggregates combining the general effective and resilient properties of both non- ‘metallic and metallic aggregates, and whilst magnetic, is non-oxidisable, chemically inert and free from oil, grease and other impurities. It should not stain or rust under the effects of moisture and be particularly suitable for use where floors are also subjected to wet processes whether internal or external. Qs CONSULT n Babu. n0) PAVIOR PAV ed FLOOR HARDENER (Cont'd) Material And Application (Cont'd) “The concrete floor base shall have a minimum cement content of 300 kg/m cube, a concrete mix of approximately 1:2:4 with a slump of 40mm, well compacted, vibrated and trowelled level between forms, avoiding overworking of the concrete to keep surfaces water to a minimum. INSTITU IMPRINT CONCRETE Insitu concrete imprint shall be ‘Masterpay’ or other equal and approved and to be supply and lay strictly in accordance to manufacturer's instruction. A Surface Preparation ‘The existing concrete surface to receive the Concrete Imprint shall be hack and roughened up and must be minimum 50mm thickness uniform throughout, Make sure that the surface is free from Debris, dirt, oil, stain, grease, curing, compounds, sealers and other containments, wet the surface completely with water before concreting. B Placing, Leveling Concrete Chippings Place one layer on BRC A7 and pour chippings into place with shovels. Vibrators when used shall be inserted vertically to consolidate the chippings. Immediately behind the screeding operation, the chippings is further leveled and consolidated with a bull float. Imprinting, ‘After the concrete has reached a point where little excess moisture shows at the surface, but while still plastic throughout, the color hardener is applying evenly to the surface by the dry shake method. The first shake is 2/3 of materials, 1/3 being withheld for the 2" and final touch up. fier the I shake the materials is then bull floated and the sides trowel. Using a reference line begin placing the stamping tools along the reference line moving in any convenient direction. The imprinting concrete shall be left to set for at least 3 to 7 days longer. Application of Sealer [At the end of this period the excess releaser should be washed off. When the surface is sufficiently dry, apply 2 coats of sealer. Allot the first coats dry before applying the second coat. Protection ‘The finished floor shall be protected. Any heavy traffic shall be avoided for 28 days. (The main contractor shall take necessary steps to protect the finished floor from damage by other trades). STONE WORKS Material Stones.for cladding work shall be 150mm ~ 225mm selected granite blocks of even colour, sound and durable, free from flaws and from soft, weathered pr decomposed parts. The stone and the quarry from which it is obtained shall be subjected to the approval of the Architect. When required by the Architect, samples shall be submitted by the Contractor of the stone he proposes to supply and the Architeot’s approval shall be obtained before any order is placed or stone quarried. Stone Cladding, ‘The cladding shall be constructed of a one-stop deep layer of hand-placed stones giving an even exposed surface of thickness as shown on the drawings. The stones shall be individually selected and placed by hand firmly in place in bearing contact with each other or with the sides of the space to be filled; the voids shall be carefully filled with small rock and spalis wedged together to form a compact mass. The sides of stones shall be roughly trimmed if necessary with a spalling hammer to obtain a reasonable close fit. On the exposed face the stoners shall be placed with their flattened sides uppermost and in the plane of the face,. All joint in the stone walling shall be rakes out as the work proceeds and later pointed in cement and sand mortar (1:3). The pointing shall be of 12mm wide and be consistent throughout. Stone Paving ‘The stones shall consist of smooth, washed, graded and hard-shell river gravel. The finish will be slip-resistant, made skid-proof by addition of approved abrasives to the product during its curing stage. A Ponding Test Provide equipment, temporary work, water and attendances for performing ponding test prior to laying of protective screed and plaster up to a depth of 75mm for a 70 hours period inchiding subsequent removal on completion, all to the satisfaction and approval of the Architect. WATERPROOFING SYSTEM B Material ‘The waterproofing system shall be of approved type. It is applied to concrete and mortar to prevent water infiltration all in accordance with the manufacturer's printed instructions and recommendations. c ‘Surface Preparation ‘Areas to be applied are as specified in the drawings and schedule of finishes. “The application of the aforesaid waterproofing works shall only be done by an approved and authorized applicator. Conerete mortar and masonry surfaces must be clean, free from grease, oil and loosely adhering particles before applying waterproofing, Steel and iron surfaces must be clean, free from scale, rust, grease and oil. All surfaces must be true and flat as possible, D) Waterproofing System Guarantee and Indemnity “The Contractor is to procure a joint guarantee and indemnity in the joint names of the Contractor, Manufacturer/Supplier and Specialist/Applicator for a period of ten (10) years fiom the date of the Certificate of Practical Completion period for the cementitious waterproofing slurry system. The specimen of guarantee and indemnity is as per format in the Appendix. MQs CONSULT M pt) __ ROOFING ROOFING Cement and Sand Paving Screeds ‘The cement and sand paving and screeds shall be as previously described in ‘Pavior’. ‘Waterproof Cement and Sand Rendering Provide cement and sand (1:3) rendering waterproofed with approved waterproofing admixture, mixed strictly in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, to all concrete flat roofs and gutters. The rendering shall be applied to the required thicknesses and finished to required falls and gradients. ‘All surfaces to be rendered are to be brushed clean and well wetted before the rendering is applied. The rendering shall be kept damp and adequately cured to prevent shrinkage and cracking. Mortar for rendering shall be mixed mechanically or by hand as directed by the Architect and the Contractor is to make allowance for the use of additional cement necessitated by the method of mixing instructed. Only whole bags of cement are to be used in any one batch of mix. Insulating Screed Insulation screeds shall be of approved propriety system and laid to the overall thicknesses specified or shown on the Drawings. ‘The insulation screed shall be hand or machine mixed and applied directly on the concrete sub-base, and then trowelled to a smooth dense surface. Application shall comply strictly with the manufacturer's instructions. ‘The insulation screed must be allowed to dry for a minimum of 3 days before the waterproofing membrane is applied Waterproofing to Concrete Roofs ‘All of the concrete surfaces to receive waterproofing, whether flexible sheet materials and brush or spray-applied coatings shall be finished smooth preferably to wood float finish. Surfaces shall be dry and clean, free from oil and swept to remove dust and loose stones. Ensure that all pipe or pipe sleeves are formed and ready for waterproofing. All surfaces must be primed before applying the waterproofing membrane. Apply primers and full coats by brush unless otherwise specified. MQS CONSULT 1 118823099), : ROOFING ROOFING (Cont'd) Waterproofing to Concrete Roofs (Cont'd) Waterproofing shall be the propriety system described or shown on the Drawings. ‘Application shall be carried out by approved specialist applicators, strictly in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications. ‘The membrane shall be tumed up at the Kerbs and parapets at mininvum 300mm and tumed into a sealing chase and pointed with sealant or mastic. Provide membrane collars, sleeves, etc. at areas where pipes, conduits, ete. are found and properly seal and ensure water tightness to manufacturer's details, Protect sheet and liquid membranes until covered by subsequent construction or handing over. ‘The Contractor shall jointly with the manufacturer provide a Standard Waterproofing Guarantee for 2 minimum ten years against failure of any kind, viz. leaks, etc, on the stipulated terms and conditions. A Interlocking Conerete Roof Tiles Interlocking concrete roof tiles shall be of approved type and colour and conforming (0 the requirements of BS 550. {All tiles shall be equal to the samples approved by the Architect and shall be of a uniform colour, All broken, chipped or defective tiles shall be immediately removed off the site and replaced with sound tiles. Tiles shall be laid to the pitch indicated on the Drawings on suitably sized tanalised timber battens to details as described or shown on the Drawings. Roof tiles shall be laid to “broken joints” and to a maximum gauge recommended by the tile manufacturer, Each course shall be laid so that the tiles are properly set out to suit the slopes. Bach tile in every alternative course shall be nailed by galvanized iron nails. In addition, cach eaves tiles and tiles adjacent to hips, valleys and ridges shall be nailed. All laying snd fixing shall be carried out strictly in accordance with manufacturer's instruction and recommendation. Eaves shall overhang fascia by minimum 50mm. Ridges and hips shall be bedded with cement and sand (1:3) mortar at the edges neatly pointed with tinted cement mortar to match general tiling. End ridge tiles shall be stopped by cement and sand mortar infill. Execute all necessary cutting and fitting at abutments and top edges. A Asbestos Cement Roofing Sheets Corrugated asbestos cement roofing sheets shall be of the sizes, colour and patterns e described and of approved quality and weight, free from flaws, broken edges, etc. ‘The sheets are to be laid with end laps of minimum 225mm and 38mm corrugations side laps, or as required for the specific type of roofing sheet. . ‘The sheets shall be fixed with galvanized steel drive serews to timber purlins and properly secured. All cuttings, whether straight, raking or ciroular on roofing sheets shall be properly and neatly cut with a hand saw. B Metal Roof Decking Metal roof decking shall be the propriety specialist system described or shown on the Drawings and shall generally be coated corrugated steel sheets, free from twist, buckle or other surface imperfections. Galvanizing shall be clean and free of obvious surface contamination and defects. The Contractor shall provide complete details of the type, section, sizes, gauge, thickness, etc. of the roof decking, including fixing method. Fascias shall be constructed using similar materials. Metal roof decking shall be laid such that ribs min parallel fo roof framing members and at 90 degree to purlins. Roof sheets shall be securely fixed by straps and completely watertight. No puncturing of the deck would be permitted. Lapping shall be as per ‘manufacturer's instructions. Suitable ridge capping, side flashing and side capping pieces of the type and size recommended by the manufacturer shall be supplied and fixed at locations shown on the Drawings Cladding for roof shall be supplied with suitable preformed roof connectors. Fiberglass Insulation Quilt Unless otherwise described in the Drawings, fiberglass insulation quilt shall be 50mm thick, with a nominal weight of 9.60 ke/m3. It shall have a thermal conduotivity of 0.032 ~ 0.035 Keal/mh degree centigrade at normal room temperature. Insulation quilt shall be Jaid over galvanized chicken wire mesh, unless otherwise specified. Insulation quilt must be protected from exposure to rain whilst laying, Rock wool Insulation Rock wool insulation shall generally be 50mm thick of sheet size 1200 x 600mm, with a nominal weight of 60 ke/m3, unless otherwise described or shown on the Drawings. It Shall have a thermal conductivity of 0.029 Keal/mh degrees centigrade at 20 degree centigrade. Roof Si: lation Provide double-sided aluminium reflective foil sisalation to roof areas as described or shown on the Drawings. The roof sisalation shall be lapped a minimum of 150mm at joints and ends. The laying of sisalation shall be all in accordance with manufacturer's ‘specification and instruction. ‘Structural Steel Trusses Structural Steel Trusses shall comply with BS 5950 and shall be obtained from an approved manufacturer. The pipeline shall be tested for strength and water tightness by a hydrostatic pressure test in whole or in section in accordance with CP 312 Part 1:1973. E Cleaning and Testing On completion, clear down all roofs, remove all debris, loose nails, mortar dropping, paint drips, clean out outlets, test all roofing and down pipes and leave the whole roofing and rainwater disposal system clean and watertight to complete satisfaction of Architect. Delivery and Storage Co-ordinate delivery with construction schedule and protect materials from weather and high humidity while in transit and on job site. Keep all materials clearly identified with all grade marks legible and store materials on raised supports. Cover materials stored on site tarpaulins or polyethylene sheets to prevent moisture absorption and impairment of structural and aesthetic properties. Ensure proper ventilation. Store all of the materials on site in such me scratching. mner as to prevent any damage or surface Protection Use all means necessary to protect the materials of this section before, during and after installation and to protect the installed work and materials from damage by all other trades. In the event of damage, immediately make all repairs and replacements necessary to the approval of the Architect at no additional cost. Cooperate with all other trades and do all cutting and trimming, in order to accommodate the work of others. Centering ‘The Carpenter is to fix all necessary centering for concrete in floors, walls, roofs, beams, lintels, columns, hearths etc. and for arches, vaults and other masonry works that may be described in this schedule, together with all temporary strutting, bracing and support and to remove same when no longer required MQs CONSULT L CARPENTRY, JOINERY, & IRONMONGERY ‘The Contractor is to allow for testing prototypes of special construction units. The Architect is to be at liberty to select any samples he may require for testing. Any timber containing moisture content in excess of that specified shall be removed from the site as directed by the Architect and shall be replaced at no additional cost to the contract. B Workmanship Unwrought timber shall be ‘left from the saw” and shall be full to the dimensions stated, except that occasional slight variation in sawing is permissible subjected to the approval of the Architect, [All framing shall be jointed as specified, shown on the drawings or as is most appropriate in circumstances. The joints shall be designed and constructed so that they will transmit the loads, and resist the stresses to which they will be subjected and the execution of all jointing shall be to the satisfaction of the Architect. Unless otherwise stated, all joints shall be secured with a suitable type and sufficient number of nails. ‘A butt joint shall wherever possible be secured with nails driven from the far side of the flaking member (if any). The jointing surfaces of all connections exposed to the weather are to be thickly primed except, where adhesives are specified. All of the surfaces shall be in good contact over the entire area of the joint before installation of fastenings. No nails, screws or bolts to be placed in any end split. Carefully select all wood members and discard all wood members with defects which will render a piece unable to serve its intended function; lumber may be rejected by “Architect, whether or not it has been installed, for excessive warp, twist, bow, crock, mildew, or mould, as well as for improper cutting and fitting. Carpentry works that do not form an essential part of the main structural fabric shall not be carried out until necessary for the proper completion of the work. A Preservative Treatment Where preservative treatment is specified, the timbers are to be of the correct moisture content specified and free from surface moisture and dirt. Treatment is to be carried out after all cutting and shaping is completed and care is to be taken to avoid damage to surfaces of treated timber in subsequent handling, if treated timber is unavoidably cut or damaged, a liberal application of preservative is to be made to cut or damaged surfaces ‘The Contractor shall submit technical data on the type of preservative treatments to be used for treating timber to the Architect for approval before placing any purchase order, ‘The Contractor shall produce certificates from the timber supplier certifying that all timber is treated with preservative in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. “The certificates shall include information on the quantities and sizes of timber treated and the net retention of dry salt obtained. When impregnation is specified, the timber shall be impregnated throughout, or as completely as itis possible, with a liquid which renders the timber fire-resistant. When surface coating is specified, the compounds shall be applied on the surfaces of the timber to form an unbroken film. EA Metal Metal stirrups, shoes, binding, fixings (including nails, screws, and bolts) clips and other accessories shall be appropriate in regard to the type of timber with which they will be in contact and must engage the stresses in the positions the trusses are designed to occupy without undue deflection. C Shop Drawings Submit shop drawings clearly indicating details of construction, profiles, jointing, fastening and other related details in accordance with clause ‘Shop Drawings’ D Special Delivery and Storage Arrange delivery of finished articles so that on-site storage is kept to a minimum. Do not store finished articles on site while there is any danger of damage from moisture, paint, ‘mortar and other similar contaminants. Every plate shall, as far as possible, be in one place between points of change of direction. Joints between continuing lengths and at comers shall be halved if the plates are in one thickness or sufficiently lapped if the plates are in two thicknesses. A Power Fitting ‘Timber To Concrete Fixing of timber to concrete with power driver fasteners shall be carried out be means of an approved automatic cartridge operated hand tool used strictly in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. The Contractor shall obiain, if required, all necessary licenses required for the use of power driven fasteners and shall pay all fees in connection. B Beams and Binder Beams and binder shall be of the dimensions shown on the drawings (if not included in the specification). The larger of the cross-sectional dimensions shall be of depth unless otherwise stated. The timber is to be in one piece and in one length between supports. Joints between continuing lengths are to be suitably scarfed or spliced and secured with bolts and plates or metal straps. Joints into or over posts are to be of most appropriate type and must be accurately constructed, and reinforced with metal straps where necessary to prevent displacement (or to detail) Housings, mortise-and-tenon and other joint cuttings must be carefully executed, and performed in such way that they do not impair the strength and stiffness of the beams or binders. The ends of beams, binders and other special flexural members are not to be built into walls but are to be supported in accordance with the details to provide an air space for ventilation at all points. Bearings on wall plates, beams, brackets girders, etc. are to be at least 75mm (or to detail). Metal hangers or joist shoes are to be designed with a bearing of at least 75mm. Tolers oe Reasonable tolerance shall be provided at all connections between joinery works and the building carcass, whether of masonry or frame construction, so that any irregularities, settlements or other movements shall be adequately compensated. ‘The joiner shall perform all necessary mortising, tenoning, grooving, matching, tonguing, housing, rebating and all other works necessary for correct jointing. He shall also provide all metal plates, screws, nails and other fixings that may be ordered by the Architect, or that may be necessary for the proper execution of the joinery works specified. Where necessary, the joinery works shall be temporarily encased and braced “The Contractor shall also provide and fix temporary strips of other suitable packing to all edges or surfaces of the joinery works that are to be enclosed by the materials of the building carcass. These strips or packing are to serve as a guide to the trade man employed in the construction of the main building carcass, and shall be removed whenever the building-in operations have been completed. In this way a tolerance measuring about 12mm shall be obtained in the vertical junctions, and a clearance of about 25mm shall be obtained at the head. C Inspection Facilities are to be given for the Architect to inspect all work in progress in shops and on. the site D Framed Doors Framed and paneled doors are to be prepared as soon as practicable after the work is, ordered, put together loose and stored in conditions of heat and humidity similar to that of the completed building. B Skirting Timber skirting shall not be installed until after the flooring is laid, unless otherwise specified. Boards and linings, other than tongued and grooved, and more than 175mm wide on face, shall be secured with three (3) nails at each fixing position or joist. Floor boards shall be laid in as long length as possible. Where flooring is to extend into recesses or across openings, it shall be the responsibility of the joiner to ensure that an adequate fixing is obtained in the structural framework of the floor, for the floor boards, and to fix additional bearers where necessary. A Protection of Flooring When laid, the flooring is to be Kept fice from plaster and cement droppings and all materials likely to cause damage. B Surface Treatment of Flooring Hardwood surface to be planed, scraped and sanded using a coarse grade and finishing with a fine grade until all irregularities are removed. C Cellular Core Door Pans Construct cellular core door panels as shown in the Architect's drawings in the best quality workmanship and the joints of the skeleton framing shall be securely fixed together with appropriate fixing devices to ensure a rigid frame construction, D Solid Core Fire-Rated Door Panels Alll fire rated solid core door panels shall be obtained from a manufacturer approved by the authorities having jurisdictions in the manufacturer and supply of fire-rated door panels. ‘The contractor shall submit certificates from the authorities having jurisdictions cettifying that all the fire-rated door panels supplied and installed for this work, have been tested and approved by them. All unapproved door panels shall be rejected and replaced with approved units at no additional cost to the contract. A Door Frames Door frames shall be of heavy hardwood grade timber and profiled as shown in the Architect's drawing. All frames shall be constructed with meter joints, ‘The frames shall be fixed-in and secured rigidly to masonry walls with hot dipped galvanized metal anchor straps embedded in mortar joints of masonry walls. For door frames that are installed against concrete structure, the metal anchor straps shall be embedded in the concrete during casting operation or with appropriate mechanical fasteners onto existing concrete. Number of wall anchors provided on cach jamb shall be as follows:~ a. Three (3) anchors minimum for frames up to 2134mm height. €& b. Four (4) anchors minimum for frames over 2134mm height and not less than 1 per cach 600mm or portion thereof. B Timber Lipping Solid hardwood lippings of minimum thickness of 12.5mm shall be provided to protect the edges of flush door panels. ‘The lippings at comers shall be constructed with miter joints and to be nailed to the framing of the door panels. ‘The lippings shall be of writ heavy hardwood grade timber unless specified otherwise, MQs CONSULT a dessa 30) CARPENTRY, JOINERY, & IRONMONGERY 1) RY (Cont'd) A Timber Veneered Door Panels All teak veneered surfaces shall be of 6mm thick ‘ordinary’ veneer or as selected by the Architect, “The substrate for receiving the timber veneer shall be of good quality wood particle board having a dense and smooth surface and that the surfaces are well bonded. The wood particle board shall comply with BS 5669:1979 TYPE 1. “The timber tipping for all veneered door panels shall be of similar quality timber species as the ordinary veneer and shall not be less than 2.5mm thick. & All timber veneered door panels or other veneered panels shall be painted in accordance with the Painting Schedule. B Architraves ‘Timber architraves shall be of writ Grade ‘A’ hardwood and of size and profile as shown on the Door and Window details. Fix architraves straight and plumb and apply paint finish on completion as per the Painting Schedule. C Installation sf Weathered-stripping and Sound proofing Carefully align door weather-stripping and sound proofing, where specified, for full contact and ensure a tight seal around full perimeter of doors. Cope all of the interseoting, members to ensure leak proof comers and fix all members securely in position. D Door Preparation and Installation ‘All door panels shall be clearly marked accordingly to designation based on the schedule of doors provided by the Architect. Prepare all wood doors to receive finish hardware as listed under Door Schedule for each door and in final approved hardware schedule. Hand all doors to open and close smoothly with no binding whatsoever. An even margin shall be kept between door and jamb, sufficient on all sides to allow free action of the door. Ensure that latch bolts engage positively with strikes when doors are properly closed. Ensure that doors remain stationary in any position without independent motion where closers are not used, Readjust and check all doors upon completion of the work, correcting any restrictions to the free action of the door caused by paint moisture or improper fixing of hardware, ete. Latch edge of door panels exceeding 43mm thickness Shall be beveled 3mm in Simm allowing for swing clearance. Set frames plumb, square, level and at correct elevation. ‘Secure anchorages and connections to adjacent construction. Brace frames rigidly in position while building-in. Install temporary horizontal wood spreader at third points of door openings to maintain frame width. Provide vetital support at center of head for openings over 1200mm wide. Remove temporary spreaders afier frames are built-in. Make allowance for deflection of structure to ensure structural loads are not transmitted to frames. MINERAL FIBRE ACOUSTICAL AND FIBRE CEMENT SUSPENDED CEILING A Cons .ction and Installation “The contractor shall provide complete suspension system for each and every panel of the suspended ceilings independently of suspension and supports provided by other works [All suspension system, unless otherwise stated, shail be fabricated from corrosion esistant material. If they are of materials that react with aluminium they shall be separated fiom the aluminium by materials that do not react with it adversely. Stiffening ties shall be provided generally at perimeter of all ceilings. Connections between straps and ties shall be either bolted or welded as the situation dictates. Fixing of suspension straps or hangers 0 concrete or brickwork with cartridge fired fasteners shall be carried out by means of an automatic cartridge operated hand tool, used in accordance with manufacturer's instructions. Alternatively, the fixing may be carried fut by mortcing and inserting fibrous inserts or other approved fixing, materials and using suitable nails or screws. Unless otherwise shown on the Drawings all exposed aluminium members shall be of ‘Donn’ white tee grid suspension, 38 x 38mm aluminium angles and 32mm wide < 3.175mm thick mild steel flat hangers and fixing in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. gs CONSULT B (sa 207 CARPENTRY, JOINERY, & IRONMONGERY es JOINERY (Cont’d) MINERAL FIBRE ACOUSTICAL AND FIBRE CEMENT SUSPENDED CEILING (Cont'd) A Construction and Installation (Cont'd) ‘All openings in the ceilings to accommodate installation of light fittings, sprinkler heads, air-conditioning grilles, speakers, ete shall be provided. The Contractor shall allow for all necessary cutting, framing, suspension and edge trims in connection with the provision of such openings. Standard stock sizes of specified thickness shall be used for the mineral fibre acoustical Ceilings and fibre cement ceilings and allow herein all the necessary cuttings, wastages Ge to obtain 1219mm x 305mm and 1219mm x 610mm acoustic ceiling boards and Glomm x 610mm and 1219mm x 610mm fibre cement ceiling boards respectively. ‘All ceiling components shall be aligned true with level surfaces and straight lines. Deflection of any component must not exceed 1/360 of the span between supports. Ceiling boards should be installed after all wet work are completed and dried and after all mechanical and electrical work in the plenum space are installed. On completion of installation, no dirt, spots or marks shall appear on the exposed surfaces. ‘All damaged or improperly installed units shall be removed and replaced at the Contractor's own expense. A Mineral Fibre Acoustical Ceilings ea ‘Acoustical ceiling materials shall be 12mm thick non-combustible mineral fibreboards. "The exposed surfaces of the boards shall be fissured to pattem nad shall be finished with ‘a coat of factory applied white latex paint. Two metal stiffeners shall be securely glued onto the back of each board at right angle to its longer dimension to prevent sagging. “The ceiling boards must be non-combustible if tested in accordance with BS 476: part 4: 1970 (non-combustibility test for materials). The boards must have Class “0” flame spread classification (Uniform Building By- Laws) approved by the Chief Inspectorate of Fire Services. MQS CONSULT 24 say 2009
