Passive voice is when the action is more important than the person who did it

The object becomes the subject

My company gives free food active voice

Free food is given passive voice

When the object of the sentence becomes the subject

In passive voice we use the verb in the past participle

● You can use passive voice with all tenses

Simple Present is/are + verb past participle

Regular verbs the same verb in ed is the past participle

Simple present we form with is/are +verb past participle

Active: They make shoes in that factory.


Passive: Shoes are made in that factory.

Present Continuous we form with is/are + being + verb pp


Active: They are making shoes in that factory.
Passive: Shoes are being made in that factory.

Simple Past we form with was/were+verb past participle


Active: They made shoes in that factory.
Passive: Shoes were made in that factory.
Past Continuous was/were+ b + verb past participle

Active: They were making shoes in that factory.


Passive: Shoes were being made in that factory.
active : my boss was working on a big project.
Passive: a big project was being worked on.

Present Perfect →have/has+ been+ verb pp

YOU TALK ABOUT PAST SITUATION THAT HAS A PRESENT RESULT

Active: They have made shoes in that factory. → QUIEN HACE LA ACCIÓN
Passive: Shoes have been made in that factory. → SOLO LA ACCIÓN

Future Simple will +be+ verb past participle

Active: They will make shoes in that factory.


Passive: Shoes will be made in that factory.

Remember, the passive voice is used when the focus is on the action, not who or what is
performing the action. It’s often used when the performer is unknown or irrelevant.

Have you been promoted?

Your boss hasn’t been sent the report
