Each radiograph shall have an inherent unique identification. The identification shall be
produced at the time of exposure, using lead letters / numbers (symbols) having a height of not
less than 6mm and not more than l2.mm. All lead symbols shall be of the same type.
Additional identification shall be used (lead letter /Numbers) will be used in case of repaired or
modified welds joints.
The zero datum reference shall be clearly marked at I2 o’clock position on the pipe before
removal of the film. l.I1 the event of any repair being required then the area shall be marked on
the pipe by the radiographer based on information supplied in writing from the interpreter.
Marking shall be by crayon or paint marker, chalk shall not be used. The progression of
number tape direction shall be clockwise when looking in the direction of flow.
Control of scatter radiation — A lead letter ‘B’ should be placed on the back of the film cassette
to check for back scatter. The letter should be at least l3mm high and 1.5mm thick. Any
resultant light image of the ‘B’ on the developed film shows the presence of back scatter.
Adequate protection measure will be incorporated to remove the backscatter completely. If the
back scatters presence, then the joint is rejected and re-radiographed with adequate protection
measure.
For hot welds above 60°C only, a 22SWG stainless steel band with 3min thick fibreglass tape
in contact with pipe wall, outside the weld width, shall be used.
Film Type
Fine grain high contrast, direct type film 70mm wide. AGFA F6 (ASTM system Classll) or
equivalent. The rnaximuin base fog shall not exceed density of 0.3 H&D. Each roll of film will
be tested for base fog level.

lengthfs. The exposure shall cover a minimum of 6mm of parent metal either side of the weld
measured from the weld toe.
Location Marker: As per ASME Sec V fi g T 275 Location Marker Sketch:
Only source side location marker is acceptable 611 film side location marker is not acceptable in
case curved components with radiation source to film distance less than radius of component.
Both source side & film side location marker are acceptable in case curved component with
radiation source at centre curvature
Only film side marker is acceptable & source side location marker is not in case curved
acceptable components with radiation source to film distance greater than radius of curvature.
Intensifying Screens
Fluorometallic front and rear. AGFA STRUCTURIX RCF or equivalent. Screen shall be
replaced when any sign of damage is noted or after a maximum of 1000 exposures.
Exposure
The exposure shall be sufficient to achieve the specified film blackening (radiographic density)
combined with the specified radiographic sensitivity.
Four of EN 462-1 Fe wire type penetrameter shall be placed equidistant around the weld
circumference at 45 °, 135°, 225°, and 315° from datum point. The IQI wire shall be placed
perpendicular to the weld and its location shall ensure that at least 10mm of the wire length
shows in the section of uniform optical density in the area of interest. The essential IQ] wire
shall be based on pipe wall/weld thickness. Class A— Single wall IQ1 requirement
Film side lQI's shall be identified with the letters "FS" adjacent to each IQI.
NOTE: During production radiography, lQl’s will be placed film side only due to lack of
access to the inside of the pipe.
Film Processing
Each method to be qualified separately with a minimum of one full circumference exposures.
16 Sensitivity
The sensitivity across the weld. using a source side penetraineter, shall be as a minimum as
shown in EN 1435 Table Bl , Image Quality class-A. The table is as follows:

If the test blocks have been prepared from a sample of the parent material with similar surface
conditions then the transfer technique need not be incorporated, but if the test blocks have been made
of a general selected material and the surface is machine finished, then the gain setting may require
adjustment to compensate for coupling losses and other sources of attenuation.
The transfer compensate shall be obtained in accordance with the requirements of the test standard. If
no test has been stipulated or the test standard does not stipulate any particular method then the
following technique shall be used.
8.0 Technique
Employing two angle beam probes of the same type, one acts as a transmitter and the other a receiver.
The probes are directed at each other on the test block at one skip distance and the signal produced

following tolerances:- (i) Sweep Range - if a point of the DAC curve has moved on the timebase by
more than l0% of its original timebase position, or (ii) DAC Curve - if a point on the DAC curve
has changed by 1 20% or 2 dB from its original amplitude; then the following action shall be taken:
The calibration shall be corrected with a note of the correction being made on the report. It
any signals have been recorded, all recorded indications shall be re-examined with the
corrected calibration and their values corrected accordingly on the report.
If any point on the DAC curve has varied by 20% or 2 dB, a new DAC curve shall be
produced.
12.1 Sensitivity
The scanning sensitivity should be set to twice the primary reference level (+6 dB). All indications
in excess of 50% of the DAC should be evaluated when assessed at the primary reference level. All
indications ofplanner discontinuities over 20% DAC shall be reported.
Prior to any examination of the weldment, the parent material shall be examined. A compression
wave 0° examination will be carried out for a minimum of 100mm either side of the weld to locate
any flaws in the parent material and to determine its thickness. For thicknesses up to 30mm, a twin
crystal probe shall be used. For thicknesses over 30mm, a single crystal probe shall be used.
If the weld cap has been removed the centre line of the weld shall be determined by locating the
position of maximum response from the weld root.
A critical root scan shall be carried out from both sides of the weld, with at least one angle probe
directed essentially perpendicular to the weld axis so as to distinguish between root variations and
the existence of root cracks or crack-like defects. This shall be done where practicable with the aid
of a magnetic strip placed so that the distance from the probe index to the root will be constant. The
body and fusion faces of the weld shall then be examined using a continuous scanning pattern from
(‘ontructorz Project: ('licul:
both sides of Lie weld between the weld centre line or the cap edge whichever is appropriate and
full skip plus the cap width using at least two probes ofdiffering angles.
All indications which produce a response greater than 20% of the reference level will be
investigated in order that the operator can evaluate the shape, identity and location of all such
reflectors and reported.
A record will be kept of all responses exceeding 50% reference level. This will detail the area, the
response level, dimension, depth below surface and the classification ofthe response.
This investigation may require scanning fiom other positions and with different probe angles and is
highly subjective in its nature and should be carried out with extreme care.
Use -6 dB-drop technique, marking the probe centre at the defect end points. Subsidiary maximum
at the ends of the defect should be treated independently of major defect for overall assessment of
length.
Use the maximum amplitude technique or -20 dB-drop technique in conjunction with adjustable
flaw location aids.

The surface of the welds and the areas to be examined by MP1 and all adjacent areas within at
least 25mm shall be prepared to the extent necessary to assure accurate interpretation of result.
Preparation includes removal of dirt. grease, lint, scale, welding flux and spatters. oil or other
extraneous matter that could interfere with the examination.
5.0 Equipment
Lifting tests shall be carried out by the approved MP1 technician per each working shift and
results shall be recorded in an NDT equipment check log (see attachment 2).
5.1 Consumables
Type shall be in accordance with PROIO4 sec 6
A field strength indicator (Burmah Castrol Type Il Strip) will be placed on the axis between
the magnetic poles (maximum spacing 150mm) to evaluate field strength. Sensitivity will be
checked per each working shift and entered in the equipment check log. Refer attachment 3
Wet method MP1 shall be performed if temperature of the material under examination is below
57°C.
Dry method MPI shall be performed on temperatures of material between 57°C up to 260°C
under client’s witness. This dry method is used on the gouged repair joints to confirm the
defect removal. If any final inspection is required, the wet method is followed.
Prior to MP1, the areas to be examined will be visually checked and physically cleaned to
ensure it is free from foreign material (e.g. grease, paint, scale, etc,), which rnight influence the
test result.
The minimum lighting intensity during examination shall be 1000 lux and the same to be
measured at typical locations on the testing surface using a calibrated light meter. white light
intensity (as appropriate) on the surface of the component shall be no less than that used in the
qualification test

12.0 Demagnetizing
AC electro Magnetic yoke is used for testing, the magnetic field created due to this is very minimal due to
its skin efilect.
When residual magnetism in the part could interfere with subsequent processing or usage, the part shall
be demagnetized any time after completion of the examination. The demagnetization may be ac-hived by
revering the magnetic field of higher strength will be gradually withdrawn to zero.
