COM 428 - HUMAN COMPUTER INTERFACE AND FACTORS IN
COMPUTER INTERFACE
CAT 3
a. Explain the concept of user-centered design in human-computer interface development. How
can understanding user behavior and preferences enhance the design process
User Centered Design is an approach to designing interfaces, products or systems that focuses on
the needs, preferences and behaviors of the end users.
Here's how understanding user behavior and preferences enhances the design process:
 Enables designers to identify the specific needs and goals of the users.
 Leads to higher user satisfaction and engagement which enables them to use the
product more regularly and this enables them to recommend other users.

b. Describe the role of dialog models in interface design. Provide a practical scenario to illustrate
the concept.
Dialog models define the structure and flow of interaction between the user and the system.
They also outline how information is exchanged, action, actions are performed and feedback is
provided hence enhancing user experience.
