Rubric for ENGL1001 Group Written Project– Due Week 9, 11:59 pm, Saturday, 2nd November

Submit a 1000-1200-word paper based on the topic of your presentation.

This assignment is a group assignment, but students will be assessed individually. The grouping will be
the same as that for the group oral presentation. Students are encouraged to engage in continuous
discussions in groups with the subject teacher along the semester in the process of formulating the
written project even before the presentation is delivered. This is important for the group to see more
clearly the relation between the group oral presentation and the group written project.

Students are required to:

1. Provide a brief written report of the group presentation project, with the aid of the
audio/visual aids used in the group oral presentation;
2. Extend the discussion of the chosen phenomenon of the English-speaking culture by
relating that to the relevant aspect(s) in terms of nationality, ethnicity, customs and
traditions of that culture (and other cultures that are related); and
3. Provide a brief outline of the division of labor among group members in the production
of the group written project.

The discussion should be evidence-based.

It is important to observe the different natures of the group oral presentation and the group written
projects: the former should focus on the factual description of a phenomenon of an English-speaking
culture; whereas the later should focus on interpreting such phenomenon by relating that to the relevant
properties of that particular culture or other cultures that are considered to be relevant.
