Warehouse Storage Type

Warehouse Storage Types

In this blog we will discus about in warehouse management, different types of storage area are utilized to
efficiently organize and manage inventory based on various factors such as size, weight, volume, accessibility, and
handling requirements. Here are some common warehouse storage types.

Selective Pallet Racking

This is one of the most common storage types, where pallets are stored on horizontal beams in multiple levels it
allows for direct access to each pallet, making it suitable for high-density storage of goods with varying SKUs and
turnover rates.
Drive-in Racking
Drive-in racking system allows forklifts to drive directly into the racking structure to retrieve or store pallets. This
dense storage system is ideal for goods with low turnover rates or large quantities of the same SKU.
Push Back Racking
Push back racking system operates similarly to drive-in racking but use a system of nested carts on inclined rails.
When a new pallet is loaded, it pushes the previously loaded pallet back one position. It offers higher selectivity
than drive-in racking while still providing high density
storage.
Cantilever Racking
Cantilever racking is designed to store long, bulky, or irregular shaped items such as lumber, pipes, or furniture. It
consists of horizontal arms extending from vertical columns, providing easy access for loading, unloading.

Flow Racking (Gravity Flow Racking)

Flow racking systems use gravity rollers or conveyors to transport goods from the loading end to unloading end
of the rack. This FIFO (First in first Out) system is ideal for high-volume, perishable goods with short shelf lives.
Carton Flow Racking
Carton flow racking system used inclined shelves with rollers or wheels to transport cartons or boxes from the
loading end to the picking end of the rack. It’s suitable for order picking operations with high SKU counts and
frequent order turn over.
Mezzanine Flooring
Mezzanine flooring are intermediate levels constructed within the warehouse to provide additional storage space
or work areas. They are ideal for warehouse with high ceilings looking to maximize vertical space utilization.

Vertical Lift Modules (VLMs)

VLMs are automated storage system consisting of vertically arranged trays or bins that are automatically retrieved
and delivered to the operator. They offer high-density storage and improved picking efficiency for small parts or
items.
Shelving Units
Shelving units provide adjustable, accessible storage for small parts, components, or products that cannot be
palletized. They are comm0nly used in picking areas, workstations, or for storing inventory with high turnover
rates.

Bin Shelving Systems

Bin shelving systems consist of small bins or containers arranged on shelves to store small parts, tools, or
hardware. They provide easy access and organization for small items used in assembly, manufacturing, or
maintenance operations.
