Muhammad (pbuh) is born

A few months before the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was born his
father, Abdullah, passed away. The Prophet Muhammad was born an
orphan. His mother Amina sent news to his grandfather Abdul
Muttalib about the birth of his grandson. Abdul Muttalib was very
happy and took the baby to the Ka’bah where he thanked Allah and
decided to call him Muhammad (pbuh).
The childhood of the
Prophet
The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was sent away with a wet nurse
called Halima. Arab children in the cities were often sent to the
villages so that their children could learn pure Arabic and grow up
healthy. The Prophet stayed with Halima for 2 years.
Whilst he was with her, his foster family were very blessed. Before
they had very less, but when the Prophet came to live with them,
they found lots of good fortune. Their land was green and lush and
their animals were healthy, whereas before they were thin and
weak.
After 2 years, Halima took the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) back to
his mother. However, Halima wanted the Prophet to stay with them a
while longer. At the time there, was an infection in Makkah and so
Amina agreed that he could go back with Halima to their village.
He stayed until he was 4 or 5 and then after that, the Prophet
(pbuh) came back to live with Amina, his mother.

When the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was around 6 years old, his
mother Amina decided to take him to Madina to visit her relatives.
Their maid, Umm Ayman was also with them. They stayed there for
around a month and then started their journey back to Makkah.
On the way back, the Prophet’s mother Amina got ill and a little
while after that, she passed away.
In the care of Abdul
Muttalib and Abu Talib
The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) then went to live with his
grandfather. He had lost his father and mother and must have felt
very sad. His grandfather Abdul Muttalib was very kind and loving
towards him. He would spend lots of time with the Prophet
Muhammad (pbuh).

When the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was 8, his grandfather Abdul

Muttalib passed away. Abu Talib, the Prophet’s uncle then took the
Prophet under his care and he showed great love and care towards
him.

And so the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) grew up with lots of loss but
also with lots of love, care and support.
Trip to Syria
When the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was 12 years old, he went on a
business trip to Syria with his uncle Abu Talib.

On their way to Syria they met a Christian monk called Bahira. Upon
seeing the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) he took his hand and said:
‘This is the Messenger of the Lord of the worlds! Allah will send him
with a Message which will be a mercy to all beings.’

Someone asked him ‘How do you know this?’

Bahira replied: “When you appeared from the direction of Al-
Aqabah, there was no tree or stone that did not prostrate to him,
and they prostrate to no one but a prophet. I also recognised the
seal of prophethood below his shoulders, like the shape of an apple.”

Bahira asked his uncle Abu Talib to send the Prophet back to Makkah
in case anyone tried to hurt him. Abu Talib then sent him back with a
few people from their group.
