Saint Michael Church (Girard)

Notes From the Pastor: Jesus Christ is coming! He always would like to come. He came long before we were born and He would like to come to each one of us anytime all the time. He would like to be with us in our community as His body the Church. This is what we are celebrating for this Advent season. Four weeks of spiritual preparation so that Jesus could really come to us and our Christmas would really be with Christ. Part of this celebration is the presence of our advent wreath in church. I strongly suggest that each family would assemble (if you dont have a ready made one) an advent wreath in your house and say some prayers at least every Sunday or weekend. I have some prayers for the advent wreath at the back of the Church. This would complement your attendance at mass and daily prayers and would be a wonderful family spiritual preparation. It was a great blessing for all of us to be visited by our chief pastor of the diocese. I am impressed by the participation of so many of us both at mass and at the reception. I am sure our bishop was satisfied and impressed by your hospitality. Your presence and participation showed the maturity of faith you have. However, there were other several families who were not around and I dont know their reason. In the past month I have been emphasizing the bishop's visit and begging in the pulpit for the congregation to rearrange their schedule so as to be present with the bishop, which happens only God knows when. For me, depending on the gravity of the reason for not coming, it is a sign of how we connect ourselves to the church as a whole. While it is wonderful for such a good turn out, I feel sad that several others could not make it. In some way I have failed. I thank our Finance and Pastoral Councils for deciding a parish gift to the Together Vision. What Dale Coomes mentioned before handing the check summarize the rationale behind such a gift: We recognized how blessed we are as a parish and acknowledging this gift, we would like to share this gift to the Diocese which we are a part of. With joyful heart and thanksgiving to God, we humbly present to you this check in the amount of $41,986.88. It is the ten percent of our savings which we willingly give back to God through the Together Vision. It is our hope that with the example of our councils, all our parishioners will be generous as well to our diocesan campaign. To God be the glory! Special thanks to our Together Vision ad hoc committee for a job well done. Also to all who support it in their own way, including our Knights of the Altars and our lady 11:00 AM servers. I thank all our kids for their presence and offerT. Paoni, Max Adams, ings. Big thank you to our Arts and Environment commitP. Amershek, M. WHAT DOES 2% MEAN? During the past 25 years, the Diocese of Wichita has consistently asked stewards to give 8% of their annual income to support the mission of the Church in the parish, while reserving 2% of their annual income for the charitable designation of their choice. The Bishop is inviting each parish family to consider directing that 2% to the TOGETHER special appeal for the next five years. Go to TOGETHERvision.org and click on GIVE to learn more about how you can support this vision for the future of our Diocese. Bring your completed TOGETHER pledge card to Mass next weekend to participate in a special collection for the future of our Diocese. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ For Your Marriage The Catholic Church cares about your marriage. Altar Society Meeting Dont forget the next meeting will be Nov. 28th at 7:00pm. Bring all your questions and/or concerns about the Bazaar. It will be easier to make notes now than a year from now. We will also have an update on St. Michaels Angels and Ministerial Alliance food pantry. Please come and join us. In the Beginning(week 36) Chris weighs about 5 and a half pounds now. Chris is really putting on baby fat which will help keep Chris warm after birth. Im still eating leftovers from Thanksgiving. The lungs are almost complete. You may be able to see Chris body parts as the uterine wall gets thinner - feet, head, and hands. Mom is looking for a pediatrician to examine the baby after birth. Shes getting ready in case Chris is ready. So stay awake, because you do not know the day when your master is coming. Mt. 24:42 CCD Announcements Our next CCD Sunday will be December 4th. Christmas Call to Sharing 2011 Very soon, you will be receiving an invitation from Bishop Jackels to consider a gift to the Christmas Call to Sharing. Your gift is used to benefit the 48 men currently studying for the priesthood in the Wichita Diocese and the 33 priests in retirement. I would ask you to prayerfully consider a special gift this year to support our priests.
