(b) 800 kg m−3 (d) –800 kg m−3

Fill in the blanks:

8. A ball falls down vertically. Its motion is__________.

9. The path along which the light energy travels in a given direction is called a __________ of light.

10. The distance covered by a body in unit time in a specified direction is called___________.

11. 1 tonne = _______ kg

12. A region of darkness or partial light is called __________.

13. The area of a square park of side 39.4 m is _____________.

14. Read the following paragraph and answer the four sub-parts.

The acceleration which is gained by an object because of gravitational force is called its acceleration
due to gravity. Its SI unit is m/s2. It is the force that is helping us to keep our feet on the ground. If we
throw a ball in the upward direction in the air, then it will come down on its own. Why? When the
ball is going in upward direction, its speed will be less as compared to when it comes down. This is
because of the acceleration, which is produced due to the force of gravity. The acceleration due to gravity
is not same at all the places on the surface of the earth, but changes from place to place.

(i) The standard unit of measuring force is

(a) gf (b) newton (c) m/s2 (d) joule

(ii) A body weighs 2 kgf at equator. Its weight at the poles will be
(a) same as equator (b) more than 2kgf (c) less than 2kgf (d) zero

one newton
(a) 100 (b) 1000 (c) 10 (d) 10000
(iv) The device used to measure the force exerted on an object.
(a) Spring balance (b) Beam balance (c) measuring cylinder (d) Simple pendulum
For question numbers 15 and 16, two statements are given- one labelled Assertion (A) and the other
labelled Reason (R). Select the correct answer to these questions from the codes (a), (b), (c) and (d)
as given below:
a) Both A and R are true, and R is correct explanation of the assertion.
b) Both A and R are true, but R is not the correct explanation of the assertion.
c) A is true, but R is false.
d) A is false, but R is true.
