Instructor Patter Guide V2011.2
1. Ensure nosewheel straight, place heels on the floor, choose a point far ahead to track towards.
2. Keep left hand on throttle, raise eyes to a point on the horizon, apply smooth back pressure on control column.
3. While maintaining a positive ROC, allow speed to increase to 80mph, then raise nose into the climb attitude.
4. Brakes on, undercarriage, power, propeller, mixture, fuel, flaps, landing lights. Track to a point on the horizon – allow for drift.
5. Check upwind threshold 30º behind left wing. Choose a point along left wing, look out, commence 15º banked left turn.
6. Lookout left, ahead and right. If climbing, enter climbing left turn, otherwise use medium 30º banked turn onto downwind.
7. Reduce power to 2200 RPM, trim for 90mph. Track to point on horizon, allow for drift.
8. Radio call: Station being called, your call sign, position, intentions. Acknowledge response.
9. Brakes on / off, undercarriage, mixture, propeller, power, fuel selection / quantity / pump, check speed and apply first flap selection &
trim.
10. Check downwind threshold 45º behind left wing, choose a point along left wing, lookout, commence a medium, level left turn onto base.
11. Carb heat on, reduce power to 1700 RPM, apply second flap selection, maintain level flight as speed decreases to 80mph, assume
descending attitude, trim for 80 mph and 500 feet/minute ROD.
12. At 600’ AAL, lookout and commence descending turn onto final. Roll wings level at 500’ AAL on extended runway centreline.
13. Radio call, carb heat off, trim for 65 mph, focus on touch down point, maintain consistent descent profile.
