Objective:
To determine the coefficient of static friction of different surfaces

Apparatus:
Wooden block (rubber covered at one side), 50g masses, 10 N spring scale, string and table
top.

Procedure:
1. The mass of wooden block was measured and had been recorded.

2. The apparatus has been setup as above.


3. The spring scale and the wooden block was attached with a string and had been
putted horizontally on the table top.
4. Mass of 50g is place on the wooden block.
5. The spring is pulled slowly.
6. Once the block starts to move, The reading on spring’s scale is taken and recorded.
7. Step 5-6 was repeated for 2 times to get average value.
8. Another 50g mass is placed on the wooden block.
9. Step5-8 is repeated until the total mass on the wooden block is 500g
10. Repeat step 1-9 using the rubber side on the wooden block
Result:
Mass of wooden block with rubber surface, M = 196.5 ± 0.1 g
