Chandigarh - The City Beautiful

There are not many cities in our country that have the honor of capital of two
states but Chandigarh is one of them. The City Beautiful is one of the most
unique places in the country and one of the earliest planned cities. The original
plan for the city was laid by American architect Albert Mayer who envisioned it as
a superblock based city with interspersed green spaces with an emphasis on
cellular neighbourhoods and traffic segregation. Mayer left the work after his
partner died in a plane crash after which French Architect Le Corbusier was
brought in to complete the work. He kept many elements of Mayer’s original
design and added some of his own. He divided the city into sectors and designed
many buildings like The Secretariat , High Court etc. The City was inaugurated by
the first President of India Dr. Rajendra Prasad on 7th OCtober 1953.

Chandigarh has plenty to hold anyone’s interest . From Numerous Gardens like
The Rock Garden , Zakir Hussain Rose Garden etc. to Sukhna Lake and Wildlife
Sanctuary to Le Corbusier’s signature Open Hand Monument (the largest of
which is in chandigarh) to Government Museum and Art Gallery there is
something for everyone . The city also has a quite a big Fast Food market so
foodies will definitely have a good time here . Aside from that there are also old
temples like (Chandi Mandir after which the city is named) and newer ones like
Sai Mandir which are a must Visit for any devotee.

Chandigarh is a very beautiful city. With its beautiful Rondbouts to overall

landscape to its iconic landmarks , Living here is an absolute delight and anyone
who is not from here should definitely visit atleast once .
