3.1 General information for LKW, LKH and LKF valves

Valve operation

In the open position the two ring sleeves seal against each other in
the centre of the valve, providing a full bore through which the slurry
can travel without being in contact with any metallic components.

Closing the valve forces the gate progressively down between the two
mating ring sleeves until it reaches the fully closed position, at which
point the ring sleeves seal tight against either side of the gate,
effectively sealing and completely containing the line pressure.

Any material/medium discharged between the ring sleeves during

stroking open or closed is collected within the containment area of
the valve body and drained via the multiple flushing ports in the
body.

How the rubber ring sleeves work

Matching rubber ring sleeves are placed in the valve housing to seal
against the gate when the valve is closed and seal against each other
when the valve is open. This tight seal contains the high internal line
pressure. Double seated design provides bidirectional flow and tight
shut off.

Secondary seal

The field replaceable elastomer secondary seal replaces conventional

gland packing, providing both wiping and lubricating actions to the
blade as it strokes – via contact between the blade surface and the
silicone grease filled contours of the seal itself. Lubrication of the
blade allows for easier actuation and movement. There is no need to
remove the valve from the line when replacing the secondary seal.

Flushing

The concept of flushing is to ensure the valve does not jam due to an
accumulation of slurry solids in the valve body.

When your Flowrox Heavy Duty Knife Gate Valve requires flushing the
customers will typically provide their own plumbing. The valves are
shipped with two flushing connections at the bottom of the valve
splash guard.

The valve is designed to discharge a small amount of slurry each time

it is actuated due to the pushing action of the gate between the ring
sleeves.

It is recommended that your Flowrox Heavy Duty Knife Gate Valve

is flushed after every 20 cycles to keep the body clear of solids
(depending on application and process).

Warning: If the slurry or medium being pumped needs to be fully

contained or is corrosive/harmful in any way then flushing cover
must not be removed.
This flushing cover has two threaded ports - one for the inlet and the
other for the outlet of flushing fluid.

3.2 Flowrox LRD valves

Valve operation

The LRD Valve is designed for leak tight shut off slurries and liquids
within a pipeline.

The valve is designed to be operated only in the fully open or fully

closed position. As the actuator is opened or closed, the disc is
allowed to rotate. This happens due to the pressure pushing against
the disc, causing the disc to touch the valve seat and rotate. As the
valve is cycled, the disc rotates a few degrees, seating in a different
position each time. The wedge gate support has a cutaway behind
the disc clearing debris away and thus, ensuring the disc closes and
seals every time.

The very nature of the construction allows a maximum of flexibility

in customizing to meet specific needs, in terms of materials, pressure
rating etc. The body and bonnet are made of cast steel and can be
made out of different materials to best suit the customer needs.
The bonnet houses the rotating disc when open and seals around the
spindle.

How the valve seals work

LRD is a rotating disc valve for slurry. The isolation and sealing is
between the replaceable rotating disc and seat.

The disc seals against the seat when closed with the help of a
tapered wedge gate support. The seat can be supplied in elastomer
urethane or ceramic. This rotating disc and seat are both replaceable
on site.

Replaceable discs

LRD valve’s design allows for on site replacement of the rotating disc.
