Disable E-Cores on 12th Gen for performance boost in W10

E I've had a 12th gen for a little while and I always thought the
DAW performance was unimpressive.

eric_w I recently came across this recommendation to disable the e-

Member cores in the bios.

I did that and my peak/load meter on a large cubase project

I've been working on dropped around 40%. I am also able to
decrease my buffer size without performance issues, for the first
time.

That is a MASSIVE performance boost. I cannot stress this

enough. I feel like I'm working on a completely new system. It's
insane.

Re-enable the e-cores. In your bios enable gaming mode (or it

might have some other name). It was a hack that was added
because e-cores screw up the DRM of some games. With this
d.healey enabled, you can use the scroll-lock key on your keyboard to
Senior Member turn the e-cores on or off. If you're on the stock bios you might
need to update it before you see this option.

I What OS are you running currently? The windows 11 scheduler

should be biasing threads correctly towards the p-cores when
necessary.

Correct, the 12th gen was "made" for windows 11 but I'm
currently on windows 10

The windows 10 scheduler has a more basic thread prioritization

algorithm compared to thread director in windows 11. I haven't
noticed any huge loading issues in windows 11 with 12th gen
although my projects may not be as demanding as yours.
Anything preventing you from updating to windows 11?

Windows updates in general give me anxiety, there's always

some issue my PC experiences after an update. But I should
really just do it, assuming W11 will better utilize my CPU.

I think it should hopefully help what you're experiencing or at

least give you the best chance to not have to disable half of
your CPU .
