IMPLEMENTATION PLAN
Makhatini Irrigation Scheme – Block 6

1. Scope of works:

 The construction of concrete butress weir,


 Agricultural subsurface drainage,
 Vehicle culvert crossings and
 Remedial repairs on existing concrete stomwter canal

2. Extend of works
 Location and protection of existing services
 Site clearance
 Excavations
 Earthworks
 Formworks
 Concrete works
 Remedial works on existing concrete stormwater canal
 Installation of agricultural subsurface drainage (pipe works)

 Installation of agricultural drainage junction boxes and outlet
structures.
 Construction of piped vehicle crossings over existing drainage
canal x 2
 Construction of concrete outlet buttress weir structure
 Repair of existing irrigation services within construction area
 Re-establishment of agricultural crops within work area when
damaged during construction.
 Construction of surface water management structures.

3. Implementation process

 Appointment by Department of Agriculture & rural development


 Official Site Hand over
 Appointment of CLO and introduction to all relevant and affected
parties
 Site establishment
 Sourcing of materials and specialist service providers
 Surveying of designed layout plan, drainage lines and manhole
positions
 Identifying most mature crops and accessible fields
 Negotiate with farmer to access specific fields.

4. Draw up installation plan

 Clearing of storm water canal and canal boundaries to be


completed first for access of subsurface drainage pipes into the
canal and the free flow of water inside the canal.
 Subsurface drainage installation to be constructed when most
crops are harvested and water table is at lowest.
 Infrastructures, canal repair, access culverts and outlet
concrete buttress weir to be done when fields are
inaccessible for the installation of subsurface drainage and
after raining season.
 Training of farmers to maintain the drainage system
 Hand the site back to Department of Agriculture & rural
development
