1. ENEMA 1. Assess following detail


a.Doctor order for types of
enema.
b.General condition of the
patient
c. Diagnosis of the patient.
2.Explain procuder to
patient
3.Wash hands.
4 Provide privacy
5.Place patient in left
lateral postion for easy
flow of fluid.Buttock
should be close to edge of
bed
6.Attach tubing to enema
can and clamp tube.
7. Prepare the solution.
8. Attach rectal tube to
tubing, expel the air and
clamp tube.
9. Hang enema can with
solution on IV stand.
10. Lubricate tip of the
rectal tube.
11. Use rag piece to
separate patient’s buttocks
and visualize anus clear.
12. Hold the enema tube
in the place while
releasing clamps on the
tube and let fluid run in.
13. Note level of the fluid
and make sure there is free
flow.
14. encourage the patient
to take deep breath.
15. Administrate 500 -
1000 ml of the solution for
adults and 250 ml for
children.
16. Clamp the tube and
remove rectal tube.
17. Discard rectal tube and
place in K basin.
18. Turn the patient to
supine and assist to toilet
or provide a bed pan.
18. record time ,types of
solutions, quantity used
and effect of enema.
19.Assist patient to wash
perineal area if bed ridden.
20. keep the patient dry
and comfortable.
