Waste management in ethanol

In ethanol production, there is no waste so therefore there are only by products of the processes involved
or what is used as a raw material to make other products. The processes involved and they products
involved include;

1. Fermentation process
Fermentation in this regard is the anaerobic respiration of yeast cells as they act on the sugars and
in turn produce ethanol. As a result of respiration, carbon dioxide is produced and captured and
can be used for a great many uses like as a preservative in the food industry, used I extinguishers
and others.

2. Distillation process
Distillation is the separation of the ethanol from the mash mixture using the difference in their
boiling points. After the evaporation of ethanol is complete from the column, the residue is called
whole stillage. It is used to make animal feeds, corn oil that is used in the biodiesel production
and also corn syrup used in the food industry.
Water is obtained and it can be recycled into mixing the ground grain in appropriate proportions
to obtain the mash mixture.
