Topic 2: Genetics
Incomplete Dominance
A type of intermediate inheritance known as incomplete dominance
occurs when one allele for a particular trait is not fully expressed over its
paired allele. As a result, a phenotype that combines the two alleles is
produced. For example, in snapdragons, the allele for red flower color is
represented by the capital letter R, and the allele for white flower color
is represented by the lowercase letter r. When a plant with red flowers
(RR) crosses with a plant with white flowers (rr), the resultant plant will
have pink flowers (Rr), signifying the blending of the two alleles in
incomplete dominance.
Genetics
The area of biology known as genetics is devoted to the
investigation of genes, heredity, and variation in living things. It
entails comprehending the structure and operation of genes, the
molecular mechanisms underlying inheritance, and how features
are inherited from parents to children. DNA, genes,
chromosomes, genetic variation, genetic disorders, and
inheritance mechanisms are just a few of the topics covered by
the field of genetics. It is important for areas like agriculture,
medicine, and evolutionary biology.
