RENEWABLE AND NON-RENEWABLE ENERGY

Renewable resources are

those which are
consistent and/or will
naturally replenish within
a short period of time.

Non-renewable resources
are those which are being
used quicker than which
they can be replenished.
SUSTAINABILITY

When designing a product, we should

be considering the impact that it will
have on the environment, economies
and people.

Sustainable design is better for the

environment. It means not causing
permanent damage and not using up
finite resources (resources that will run
out). Consideration should be given to:

Materials - renewable or finite? Are

they recyclable or biodegradable or
will they just go to landfill?

Processes - will the manufacturing

processes use a lot of energy? Will they
produce a lot of waste/pollution?

Obsolescence - how long will the

product last?
SUSTAINABILITY

Repair- When a product breaks down or

doesn’t work properly, fix it.

Reuse - Use a product to make

something else with all or parts of it.

Refuse- Don’t use a material or buy a

product if you don’t need it or if it’s bad
for people or the environment.

Recycle - Reprocess a material or

product and make something else.

Rethink - Do we make too many

products? Design in a way that considers
people and the environment.

Reduce - Cut down the amount of

material and energy you use as much as
you can.
