EXAM
FOR
TEACHER
CERTIFICATION
4.0
Grading
4.1
Part
One
of
the
EETC,
the
Objective
Language
Tasks,
consists
of
ten
(10)
multiple-‐choice
questions
and
twenty
(20)
short
answer
questions.
Part
One
is
graded
electronically.
The
graders
review
all
exams
that
receive
between
17
and
22
out
of
30.
4.2
Grading
of
Part
Two
of
the
EETC,
the
Professional
Writing
Tasks,
occurs
in
a
central
location
and
is
undertaken
by
a
team
of
qualified,
trained
graders
who
base
their
evaluation
on
the
rating
scale
that
applies
to
the
EETC.
Part
Two
of
the
EETC,
the
Professional
Writing
Tasks,
consists
of
two
tasks.
Two
graders
blind-‐grade
each
task.
Any
task
that
is
assigned
a
failing
grade
is
read
by
a
third
grader.
If
necessary,
a
fourth
grader
is
assigned.
A
pass
on
both
tasks
is
required.
4.3
The
criteria
for
evaluation
are
included
on
the
instructions
to
the
tasks
in
the
actual
exam.
Writing
tasks
are
evaluated
on
three
broad
criteria:
(1)
Content
and
integration
of
source
material:
Quality
of
synthesis/summary
of
your
information
document
(without
plagiarism);
coherence and organization of ideas, (including
paragraphing)
(2)
Language
and
clarity:
Accuracy
of
grammar,
format
and
mechanics;
(3)
Tone
and
register:
Choice
of
language
appropriate
for
the
audience
and
situation.
4.4
The
lack
of
success
on
the
writing
tasks
is
due
to
one
or
more
of
the
following
reasons,
each
linked
to
the
criteria
for
evaluation
identified
in
4.3
above:
1. Plagiarism:
Plagiarism;
including
patchwork
plagiarism,
which
is
taking
parts
of
sentences
from
the
text
and
stringing
them
together
2. Misrepresentation:
Significant
misrepresentation
of
source
material;
evidence
of
miscomprehension
of
the
source
material
or
task;
misleading
or
misinforming
the
audience
about
the
information
in
the
document
3. Integration:
Failure
to
integrate
source
material
sufficiently;
lack
of
detail
from
the
text;
failure
to
synthesize
or
summarize
source
material
4. Lack
of
Original
Text:
Insufficient
original
text
to
evaluate
writing
ability;
overuse
of
quotations;
incomplete
submission
5. Structure:
Structural
weaknesses;
poor
organization;
lack
of
coherence;
illogical
flow
of
ideas;
lack
of
transition
between
ideas
6. Audience:
Writing
to
the
wrong
audience
or
using
a
tone
with
the
audience
that
is
flagrantly
unprofessional
or
inappropriate
7. Language:
Language
errors;
not
a
few
small
typos,
but
systemic
errors
in
language
8. Instructions:
Not
following
instructions;
demands
of
the
task
are
either
not
addressed
or
not
at
all
achieved;
purpose
is
not
evident
to
the
reader

A
failing
grade
on
the
EETC
is
assigned
only
after
careful
review.
5.0
Reporting
5.1
THE
CEETC
is
responsible
for
reporting
the
results
on
the
exams
via
email.
5.1.1
The
CEETC
notifies
students
and
those
referred
by
the
MELS
when
they
may
access
their
results
on
line.
5.1.2
The
CEETC
sends
the
exam
results
to
the
designated
representative
of
the
university
in
which
the
student
is
enrolled.
5.1.3
The
CEETC
sends
the
exam
results
to
the
designated
representative
of
the
MELS/DFTPS
for
those
referred
by
the
MELS.
5.2
Results
are
reported
as
a
Pass
or
a
Fail.
In
order
to
obtain
a
pass
on
the
EETC,
a
student
must
receive
a
pass
on
the
Objective
Language
Tasks
(Part
One)
and
on
both
the
Professional
Writing
Tasks
(Part
Two).
5.3
Students
will
be
informed
of
the
reason
or
reasons
given
by
the
graders
for
assigning
a
failing
grade
for
the
Professional
Writing
Tasks
from
among
those
identified
in
4.4.
5.4
In
order
to
safeguard
the
integrity
of
the
exam,
the
exam
is
not
returned
to
the
student
or
to
the
university,
nor
may
it
be
consulted.
The
EETC
is
not
a
diagnostic
test.
It
is
not
meant
to
identify
deficiencies
in
written
language.
It
is
a
test
that
is
used
to
demonstrate
whether
or
not
a
satisfactory
level
of
competency
in
written
English
expected
of
a
teacher
has
been
attained.
6.0
Rereads
6.1
A
request
for
a
reread
of
the
Professional
Writing
Tasks
is
permitted.
6.1.1
The
request
must
be
made
in
writing
within
20
calendar
days
following
the
date
that
the
results
are
available
online.
6.2
A
request
for
a
reread
must
be
sent
in
writing
along
with
the
fee
for
a
reread,
defined
in
8.4.3,
to:

6.3
Following
the
reread,
results
will
be
sent
by
email
to
the
student
and
to
the
university
in
which
the
student
is
enrolled
or
to
the
designated
representative
of
the
DFTPS
(MELS).
6.4
The
fee
is
reimbursed
if
a
pass
is
awarded
as
a
result
of
the
reread.
6.5
The
exam
is
not
returned
to
the
student
or
to
the
university,
nor
may
it
be
consulted
(see
5.4).
8.0
Fees
8.1
Fees
are
set
annually.
8.2
Fees
are
payable
by
the
student
to
LEARN
at
time
of
registration.
8.3
Fees
may
be
paid
via
PayPal.
Payments
made
by
cheque
will
only
be
accepted
up
to
three
weeks
prior
to
the
writing
of
the
exam.
Cheques
must
be
addressed
to

and
should
be
mailed

8.3.1
A
20$
charge
will
apply
to
cheques
that
are
returned
"Non-‐
Sufficent
Funds”
(NSF)
or
"Stopped
Payment".
Exam
results
will
be
withheld
until
the
replacement
cheque/payment
has
cleared
and
payment
of
the
NSF
charge
has
been
made
in
full.
