The difference between informal language and formal language is informal language is
impulsive, direct, and personal to a certain degree. This type of language tends to be simpler
and shorter therefore, using casual language saves time. Whereas formal language avoids the
use of words and sentences such as slangs, verb shortening, and colloquialisms. Formal
language follows standard English grammar rules so the sentences are longer and more
complex.

Informal language is important to learn because it is spontaneous, direct, and personal to a


certain extent. When using informal language, it can show a sense of closeness to the listener
which makes them more comfortable. Formal language is also important to learn because
formal language can show one's expertise in a field. For example, when giving a speech.

2. In sentence A, the language used is informal, because it is shorter and easier to understand. In
sentence B, the language used is formal, because it is more professional and polite.

3. Slang is a non-formal use of language by certain groups of people, especially teenagers.


Whereas colloquialism is informal language used by people in everyday conversation.
