History/Background of Haribon Foundation

Haribon Foundation is one of the oldest and most prominent environmental


organizations in the Philippines, with a strong presence in Quezon Province.
Established in 1972, Haribon has been at the forefront of environmental conservation
and advocacy efforts in the country for over five decades. The organization takes its
name from the Philippine Eagle, known as "Haribon" in Filipino, a symbol of strength,
resilience, and conservation.
Over the years, Haribon Foundation has made significant contributions to
environmental conservation and sustainable development in Quezon Province and
beyond. Through its efforts, Haribon has helped protect critical habitats, restore
degraded ecosystems, and empower communities to actively participate in conservation
efforts. The organization's work has helped preserve biodiversity, safeguard natural
resources, and promote a culture of environmental stewardship in the Philippines.

Objectives of Haribon Foundation:

Haribon Foundation’s primary objectives are:


1. Biodiversity Conservation: Haribon conducts scientific research and conservation
projects aimed at preserving the rich biodiversity of Quezon Province and other areas
across the Philippines.
2. Community Empowerment: Haribon works closely with local communities in Quezon
Province to raise awareness about environmental issues, build capacity for sustainable
resource management, and support livelihood initiatives that promote conservation.
3. Environmental Education: Haribon provides environmental education programs for
schools, communities, and other stakeholders, fostering a deeper understanding of the
importance of biodiversity conservation and sustainable living practices.
4. Policy Advocacy: Haribon advocates for the implementation of policies and
regulations that support environmental conservation and sustainable development at
the local, national, and international levels.
