"Good morning everyone.

In this particular discussion, I will be focusing on how one

of the biggest revolutions in the history of the world, namely the French Revolution,
had a great impact on the Indian struggle for freedom.

Throughout this presentation, I will explore how the ideas and ideologies stemming from the
French Revolution inspired Indian nationalism, democratic aspirations, social reforms,
revolutionary tactics, and the fight for human rights and secularism.

Let's delve into the ways in which the echoes of the French Revolution shaped the path of India's
quest for independence."

During the French Revolution in 1789, people rose up in protest, paving the way of
revolution in all corners of the world. Liberty, equality and fraternity – the three ideals
of the French Revolution did not only influence the change within the boundaries of
France but also inspired freedom loving people across the globe.

It is important to note that the French Revolution of 1789 awaken the Indian freedom
movement by providing the ideal importance of liberty, equality, and fraternity. These
principles were laudable by Indian intelligentsia and freedom fighters who compared
their struggle against British imperialism with the French fight against monarchy and
aristocracy.

Nationalism: The ideology of nationalism hence conceived during the French

Revolution was used to mobilise Indian leaders such as Bal Gangadhar Tilak and
Subhas Chandra Bose to imagine India as an independent nation-state.

Democracy: The revolution provided inexperienced India with a democratic facade in

their struggle for freedom by leaders such as Nehru and Gandhi; they wanted a
democratic society that included all Indians.

Social Reforms: The spirit of egalitarianism got injected in to India and this rekindled
some reform movements like the Brahmo Samaj and Arya Samaj which worked
towards eradicating social evils like untouchability.

Secularism: The Revolution also ushered the tenet of secularism where in France
religion and state were never to become intertwined; the Indian National Congress
threatened this mold and believed in a secular India.
Human Rights: The concepts of human rights and social justice that were well
expressed by theDeclaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen were
consequently used by Indian freedom fighters demanding freedom for India.

The ideas from the French Revolution were the antecedent of the intellectual and
ideological feed, which spearheaded democratic, secular, and revolutionary visions
that contributed greatly to brass tacks of the Indian leaders on envisioning an
independent, democratic, egalitarian India.
