INTRODUCTION- BEADWORK OF KUTCH

Rabari women in Kutch have historically created


needlework art and beaded jewellery, commonly known
as moti bharat. These are very attractive and created
from colourful glass beads combined with colourful
threads. During their free time, Rabari women
intricately adorn clothing, purses, jewellery, and animal
talismans that serve both ornamental and utilitarian
functions. Women make the jewellery for themselves
and their family, and it's widely worn at festivals and
community weddings. These objects' symbolic meaning
is their connection to producing prosperity. It's a
payment towards the dowry. The bride crafts the
groom's baggage, jewellery, and ornamental clothing
that he wears throughout the wedding.
HISTORY- BEADWORK OF KUTCH

Beads have been around since the Late Old Stone Age,
or Upper Palaeolithic Age. However, beads back then
were presumably huge and fashioned from shells or
ivory. The seed beads used in bead weaving today are
also remnants of an ancient craft, having been found in
4000 year old Egyptian artefacts. King Tut of ancient
Egypt was one of the greatest instances of beading in
those days; additional examples are said to be
uncommon. King Tut had beadwork in his tomb.
However, a number of beaded objects from the eighth
century A.D. were discovered at the Shosoin shrine in
Nara, Japan.
