FROM THE PRESIDENT OF
THE INDONESIAN PEDIATRIC SOCIETY

Assalamu’alaikum Wr Wb,

Best wishes for all of us.

Children are an important investment for the future of a nation and state. One-third of
Indonesia’s population consists of children and this number occupies the fourth largest child
population in the world. As the nation’s next generation, the welfare of Indonesian children is
a priority in the development of qualified human resource candidates.

Improving the quality of children’s health services is very important, because it will affect not
only the growth and development of children, but also the psychological, psychosocial, and
quality of life of children in the future. The role of pediatricians is very important to support
the quality of Indonesian children’s health, especially during this pandemic recovery, not only
at the service level at the hospital, but also at the community level, starting from promotive,
preventive (immunization), curative and rehabilitative aspects. Government program
activities such as early detection of developmental disorders, catch-up immunization,
reduction of infant mortality (IMR), prevention of stunting, control of communicable diseases
(pneumonia, tuberculosis, diarrhea, dengue hemorrhagic fever, HIV, etc.) congenital heart
disease, obesity, congenital hypothyroidism, etc.), including accompanying children with
psychosocial problems, must be assisted as much as possible by a pediatrician, to produce
the best quality children in the future.

I invite all pediatricians, general practitioners, and other related health workers, to participate
in the 12th Annual Scientific Meeting of Indonesian Pediatric Society in conjunction with 8th
Asian Paediatric Pulmonary Society (12th ASMIPS/PIT IKA XII – 8th APPS activities. We hope that
the event will be useful and will become a platform for colleagues, both pediatricians and
general practitioners, to add knowledge and competence related to children’s health, so that
children’s health services can be fulfilled properly, in this era of pandemic recovery.

FROM THE PRESIDENT OF APPS

It is a great pleasure to have this combined meeting of the Asian Paediatric Pulmonology
Society’s Annual Congress with the Indonesian Paediatric Society. The theme of the
meeting is a reminder of what the world has gone through with the pandemic and is
aptly titled “Pandemic recovery: Restoring the future of Children”. After 3 long years
of the pandemic, we are now able to return to a semblance of normality and it will
be a joy to be able to visit Indonesia and experience the warmth and hospitality of its
people again at this face-to-face meeting.

The Indonesian Paediatric Society has put in a lot of effort in planning this
congress which will bring together paediatricians and general practitioners from all
over Indonesia to share insights and best practices in managing childhood diseases
across all disciplines. This will also be an ideal platform to share the management of
respiratory childhood diseases. Respiratory illnesses are one of the most common
conditions presented to the paediatrician and general practitioner; one should learn
to recognize and manage these conditions adequately.

The members of the Asian Paediatric Pulmonology Society really look forward
to having this meeting with our Indonesian counterparts. I am sure this will be a fruitful
endeavour for all the delegates participating in this meeting.

FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF 12TH PITIKA 2023

Assalamu’alaikum Wr Wb,

Greetings to all of us. Professor, Colleagues.

The COVID-19 pandemic that has occurred since early 2020 has had various impacts on
human life and the environment, including children. As the next generation, children are a
precious national asset. To ensure their health should be reflected in improving and achieving
Indonesia’s child health services in the 2030 SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). One of
the responsibilities of the Indonesian Pediatrician Society (IDAI) as a professional organization
for Indonesian child health is to facilitate the development and improvement of child
health knowledge, as well as to maintain and improve the professional skills of doctors and
pediatricians in Indonesia through the Annual Scientific Meeting of Indonesian Pediatric
Society (PIT).

Indonesian Pediatric Society (IDAI) has given a mandate to the Indonesian Pediatric Society
of West Sumatra as the executor of the 12th Annual Scientific Meeting of Indonesian Pediatric
Society (12th ASMIPS/PIT-IKA XII) which will be held on October 7th - 11th, 2023 (Pre-PIT and PIT),
involving 7 Working Groups (Allergy-Immunology, Endocrinology, Gastrohepatology, Infection,
and Tropical Diseases, Cardiology, Respirology, Imaging and 5 Task Forces (Breastfeeding,
HIV, Immunization, Adolescence, Stunting), themed “Pandemic Recovery: Restoring the
Future of Children”. The meeting will be conducted in conjunction with the 8th Asian Pediatric
Pulmonology Society (APPS) Congress. The activities include Keynote Speech, Plenary Sessions,
Plenary Symposia, Parallel Symposia, Breakthrough Symposia, Lunch Symposia, Breakfast
Meetings, Meet the Expert, Workshops and Free Paper Symposia. Many experts from Indonesia
and abroad will give us new insights and knowledge in this field. This event also facilitates IDAI
junior members and general practitioners to demonstrate their research and other abilities.

Reckon in the momentous event will be attended by professors, pediatric consultants, general
pediatricians, residents, general practitioners, and respirology consultants from various Asian
countries, this event should be supported optimally. Finally, we are hoping for support from
all parties for the success of PIT IKA XII – 8th APPS Congress 2023 in Ranah Minang, which is
famous for its culinary and natural beauty.
