1. So sánh kép sử dụng tính từ và trạng từ

1.1. Cấu trúc so sánh kép “The comparative… the comparative…” (càng… thì càng…)

Cách dùng: Khi hai vật hay hai sự việc thay đổi cùng cấp độ thì dùng hình thức so sánh
hơn ở cả hai mệnh đề để diễn tả điều này, mang nghĩa càng A thì càng B.

Cấu trúc chung:

The + comparative adj/ adv + S + V, the comparative adj/ adv + S + V

Một số dạng thường gặp của cấu trúc này:

Cấu trúc 1:

The + short adj/ adv – er + S + V, the + short adj. / adv. – er + S + V

E.g:

 The higher you are compared to the sea level, the harder you can breathe.
 The darker it is, the noisier the crowd is.
Cấu trúc 2:

The more + long adj/ adv + S + V, the more + long adj/ adv + S + V

E.g:

 The more painful it gets, the more miserable he feels.

 The more beautiful she is, the more attractive she gets.
Cấu trúc 3:

The + short adj/ adv – er + S + V, the more + long adj/adv + S + V

E.g:

 The older he gets, the more thoughtful he is.

 The larger the house is, the more attractive it is.
Cấu trúc 4:

The more + long adj/adv + S + V, the + short adj/adv – er + S + V

E.g:

 The more carefully you drive, the safer you are.

 The more healthily you eat, the fitter you are.
Chú ý:

 Nếu ở cả 2 vế so sánh đều có chủ ngữ giả là It is => Có thể lược bỏ chủ ngữ giả.

E.g: The shorter (it is), the better (it is).

 Nếu ở cả 2 vế so sánh đều dùng to be thì có thể bỏ đi.

E.g: The closer to the Earth’s pole (is), the greater the gravitational force (is).
21.2. Cấu trúc so sánh kép “Comparative and comparative” (càng ngày càng)

Dạng so sánh này thường được dùng để miêu tả sự việc ngày càng phát triển về chất
lượng hay số lượng…

Cấu trúc:

Chung: S + V + comparative adj/adv and comparative adj/adv

Cấu trúc 1: S + V + short adj/adv – er and short adj/adv – er

HOẶC
Cấu trúc 2: S + V + more and more + long adj/adv

E.g:

 Because he was afraid, he walked faster and faster.

2. So sánh kép sử dụng danh từ và động từ

2.1. Cấu trúc so sánh kép với danh từ

Cấu trúc:

The more/ less + noun + S + V, The more/ less + noun + S + V

E.g:

 The more people join the strike, the more police will be involved.
 The less money he spends, the more he will save.

Cấu trúc:

The more/ less + S + V , The more/ less+ S + V

E.g:

Lưu ý: Khi đưa ra lời đề nghị/ khuyên bảo cho các hành động, so sánh kép có thể dùng
theo dạng mệnh lệnh.

E.g:

 Play less, study more.
