Other New & Emerging Electronic Communication

Technology

1. Teleconferencing
A teleconference is a telephone meeting among two
or more participants involving technology more
sophisticated than a simple two-way phone
connection. At its simplest, a teleconference can be an
audio conference with one or both ends of the
conference sharing a speaker phone. One major
advantage of teleconferencing is that it saves
organisations the cost of having to fly employees to meetings.

2. Videoconferencing
This is the use of computer, video and audio
communication technology (software, video
cameras/web cams, microphones and
speakers) to allow people in different
locations to see and talk to one another.
Videoconference is a more advanced form of
teleconferencing and thus offers the same
advantages. It has the added benefit in that it
allows participants to view the images (still
or moving) of other participants in the different locations.

3. Smartphones
A smartphone is a personal digital assistant (PDA)
type mobile phone with an integrated computer and
other features not originally associated with
telephones, such as an operating system, Web
browsing and the ability to run software applications.
They are usually equipped with software to help
people manage their busy schedules. Applications
that handle email, appointments, or extensive contact
lists is what sets them apart from normal phones.

4. Scan-To-Mail/Scan-To-File
A scanner can be used to scan a document and then the
resulting file can be sent as an email attachment. This
process is known as scan-to-mail or scan-to-file.
