Statement of Problem

Many studies have been showing various possible determinant factors that might contribute for
students' attitude towards learning physical education. It is important to examine
students’ attitude towards their physical education learning.
Attitudes develop at an early age and can be changed based on situational contexts such as a
particular teacher or the class environment (Aicinena, 1991).
However, in our country Ethiopia, most areas were not changes the students’ attitude
towards to learning physical education. Lack of awareness and role model affects the
students’ attitude towards to learning PE. This existing gap in research in this particular
area and setting initiated the researcher to study the factors affecting students’ attitude
toward learning Physical Education in case of natural science undergraduate students in
Jimma University.. In order to achieve the above reason, the study was designed to answer
the following basic research questions.

 What is the attitude of students towards learning physical education subject?


 What are the major factors affect student’s attitude towards learning physical
education?  What are the way and means of developing positive attitude towards
learning PE?

1.3. Delimation Of The Study

Because of limited resource, time, budget and other constrains, the researcher would be
delimited himself at natural science undergraduate students in Jimma University .. This
contains natural science undergraduate students in Jimma University. To make the study
more manageable and feasible, the researcher selected three batches of under graduate
students in natural science of jimma university.

1.4. Significance of Study

In this study, the attitude of students on learning PE and the factors affecting students’ attitude
towards learning physical educations would be identified and the way and means
of developing positive attitude towards learning PE would be recommended as an effective
desire goals. Based on this fact researcher believe that, those finding of this study will
be useful to aware the students to learn PE. In connection of the above idea, the purposes
of this research finding are useful and suggest to
 It might help minimizing a negative attitude of students’ and developing a positive
students’ attitude towards learning physical education.
 It might use as an additional literature for further research on the subject science if
there is no record material available on this topic.
 It might help to identify the factors affecting students’ attitude towards learning
physical education.
 Finally, the research will be give suitable solution and recommending that help to
solve the
factors affecting students’ attitude towards learning PE.

1.6. Objective of the Study


1.6.1. General objective

The main objective of this study is to identify and investigate the factors affecting students’
attitude towards learning physical education of natural science undergraduate students in Jimma
University.

1.6.2. Specific objectives

 To describe the attitude of students’ towards learning physical education.


 To find out the influential factors that affects the attitude of students’ towards learning
PE.  To suggest the way and means of developing positive attitude towards learning
PE.

1.7 DEFINITION OF TERMS

Attitude;-the way a person views something or trends to behave towards it and perspective or
outlook students on physical education

Physical Activity;- is any kind of sport activity which includes physical performances.

Physical Education;- is an interval education that makes an individual physical fit, mentally
alerted ensures social well-being.
