Imports and Exports

• “the most important sector of the

Somalian economy is agriculture, with
livestock raising surpassing crop
growing fourfold in value and earning
about three-fifths of Somalia's foreign
exchange”.
Risks

• “last year’s 53% of the food received in

Somalia (from donations) came from
Ukraine.” Now, as a result of the war, the
shipping ports in Ukraine are closed, and
Ukraine, even if they wanted to, is not in
a position to donate food.

• “United Nations (UN) projects that 4.6

million Somalians will not have enough
food by May 2022,”

• The Ukraine issue requires massive

attention from the international
community, and rightly so, but to the
detriment of the Somali people.
Mitigation

• United Nations Office for the

Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs is
funding $47.1 to decrease the famine

• Exportations to other countries to

increase the economy and exchange
products

• the deposits of the clay mineral sepiolite,
or meerschaum, in south-central Somalia
are among the largest known reserves in
the world. Reserves of natural gas have
been found but have not been exploited
