After going through this module, you are expected to visualize percent and
its relationship to fractions, ratios, and decimal numbers using models.

Lesson
Have you come across the term "percent" before? Where is the symbol (%)
commonly found?
Percent means “per hundred” or “for every hundred”. It comes from the
Latin words per and centum. The symbol used is (%).
Try to discover.
In the provided illustration, it shows 100%. Among the children, boys make
up 57%, while girls constitute 43%.
1. How many square grids are there in all? (The grid is composed of 100
small squares. It is also used to illustrate percent.)
2. What percent is shaded blue? (65%)
3. What percent is shaded gray? (15%)
4. What percent is the remaining unshaded parts? (20%)
5. What percent is the combined shaded parts? (70%)
Both fraction and decimal are read as “thirty-one hundredths” which means
31 out of 100.
