. Then Nahash the

ְ ‫וַּי‬ ‫ּכָ ל‬ ‫אַ נְ ׁשֵ י ־‬ ‫ָביׁש‬
ֵ ‫י‬ ‫ָחׁש ־ אֶ ל‬
ָ ‫נ‬ ‫ְּכ ָרת‬ ‫לָ נּו ־‬ ‫ְב ִרית‬ men of Jabesh said unto
Nahash, Make a covenant
u·iamru kl - anshi ibish al - nchsh krth - l·nu brith
with us, and we will serve
and·they-are-saying all-of mortals-of Jabesh to Nahash cut-you ! to·us covenant
thee.
ָ‫ְונַעַ ְב ֶדּך‬ :

11:2 ‫ֹאמר‬
ֶ ‫וַּי‬ ‫יהם‬
ֶ ֵ‫אֲל‬ ‫ָחׁש‬
ָ ‫נ‬ ‫ָהעַ ּמ נִ י‬ ‫ְּבז ֹאת‬ ‫אֶ ְכרֹת‬ ‫לָ כֶ ם‬ ‫ִּבנְ ק ר‬

And Nahash the
u·iamr ali·em nchsh e·omuni b·zath akrth l·km b·nqur Ammonite answered them,
and·he-is-saying to·them Nahash the·Ammonite in·this I-shall-cut to·you(p) in·to-pick-out-of On this [condition] will I
make [a covenant] with you,
‫לָ כֶ ם‬ ‫ּכָ ל‬ ‫עֵ ין ־‬ ‫י ִָמין‬ ‫יה‬
ָ ‫ְוׂשַ ְמ ִּת‬ ‫ֶח ְרּפָ ה‬ ‫ּכָ ל ־ עַ ל‬ ‫ יִ ְׂש ָראֵ ל ־‬: that I may thrust out all your
right eyes, and lay it [for] a

reproach upon all Israel.

11:3 ‫ֹאמרּו‬
ְ ‫וַּי‬ ‫אֵ לָ יו‬ ‫זִ ְקנֵי‬ ‫ָביׁש‬
ֵ ‫י‬ ‫ֶה ֶרף‬ ‫לָ נּו‬ ‫ִׁש ְבעַ ת‬ ‫י ִָמים‬

And the elders of Jabesh
u·iamru ali·u zqni ibish erph l·nu shboth imim said unto him, Give us
and·they-are-saying to·him old-ones-of Jabesh chold-back-you ! to·us seven-of days seven days'respite, that we
may send messengers unto
‫ְונִ ְׁש ְל ָחה‬ ‫ַמ ְלאָ ִכים‬ ‫ְּבכֹל‬ ‫ּגְ בּול‬ ‫יִ ְׂש ָראֵ ל‬ ‫ְו ִאם‬ ‫אֵ ין ־‬ ‫יע‬
ַ ‫מ ִׁש‬ all the coasts of Israel: and
then, if [there be] no man to

save us, we will come out to
and·we-shall-send messengers in·all-of boundary-of Israel and·if there-is-no one-csaving
thee.
‫ֹתנּו‬
ָ ‫א‬ ‫ְויָצָ אנּו‬ ,‫אֵ לֶ י‬ :

11:4 ‫ַו ָּיבֹאּו‬ ‫ַה ַּמ ְלאָ ִכים‬ ‫ּגִ ְבעַ ת‬ ‫ׁשָ אּול‬ ‫וַיְ ַד ְּברּו‬ ‫ַה ְּד ָב ִרים‬

Then came the

and·they-are-coming the·messengers Gibeah-of Saul and·they-are-mspeaking the·words Saul, and told the tidings in
the ears of the people: and
‫ְּבאָ זְ נֵי‬ ‫ָהעָ ם‬ ‫וַּיִ ְׂשאּו‬ ‫כָ ל‬ ‫ָהעָ ם ־‬ ‫ק לָ ם ־ אֶ ת‬ all the people lifted up their
voices, and wept.

ֶ ‫וַּי‬ ‫ׁשָ אּול‬ ‫ַמה‬ ‫־‬

. And, behold, Saul came

And the Spirit of God

11:7 ‫וַּיִ ַּקח‬ ‫צֶ ֶמד‬ ‫וַיְ נ ְַּת ֵחהּו ָּב ָקר‬ ‫וַיְ ׁשַ ּלַ ח‬ ‫ְּבכָ ל‬ ‫־‬

And he took a yoke of

and·he-is-taking team-of ox and·he-is-mcutting-to-pieces·him and·he-is-msending in·all-of pieces, and sent [them]
throughout all the coasts of
‫ּגְ בּול‬ ‫יִ ְׂש ָראֵ ל‬ ‫ְּביַד‬ ‫ַה ַּמ ְלאָ ִכים‬ ‫לֵ אמֹר‬ ‫אֵ ינֶּנּו אֲׁשֶ ר‬ ‫יֹצֵ א‬ Israel by the hands of
messengers, saying,

Whosoever cometh not
boundary-of Israel in·hand-of the·messengers to·to-say-of who there-is-no·him coming-forth

Samuel, so shall it be done
‫אַ ח ֲֵרי‬ ‫ׁשָ אּול‬ ‫ְואַ ַחר‬ ‫ְׁשמּואֵ ל‬ ‫ּכֹה‬ ‫יֵעָ ׂשֶ ה‬ ‫ִל ְב ָקר‬ ‫וַּיִ ּפֹל‬ ‫ּפַ ַחד‬ ‫־‬ unto his oxen. And the fear

And when he numbered

And they said unto the

hot, ye shall have help. And

the messengers came and
Jabesh~Gilead tomorrow she-shall-become to·you(p) salvation in·warmth-of as·warmth-of
shewed [it] to the men of
Jabesh; and they were glad.

11:10 ‫ֹאמרּו‬
ְ ‫וַּי‬ ‫אַ נְ ׁשֵ י‬ ‫ָביׁש‬
ֵ ‫י‬ ‫ָמ ָחר‬ ‫נֵצֵ א‬ ‫אֲלֵ יכֶ ם‬ ‫יתם‬
ֶ ‫ֲׂש‬
ִ ‫ַוע‬

Therefore the men of

and·they-are-saying mortals-of Jabesh tomorrow we-shall-come-forth to·you(p) and·you(p)-do will come out unto you, and
ye shall do with us all that
‫ּלָ נּו‬ ‫ְּככָ ל‬ ‫ַהּט ב ־‬ ‫ְּבעֵ ינֵיכֶ ם‬ : ‫ס‬ seemeth good unto you.

11:11 ‫וַיְ ִהי‬ ‫ִמ ָּמח ֳָרת‬ ‫ַוּיָׂשֶ ם‬ ‫ׁשָ אּול‬ ‫ָהעָ ם ־ אֶ ת‬ ‫ׁשָ ה‬2‫ְׁש‬ ‫אׁשים‬
ִ ‫ָר‬

And it was [so] on the

ֶ ‫ַהּב‬ ‫ַוּיַּכּו‬ ‫־ אֶ ת‬ midst of the host in the
morning watch, and slew

to pass, that they which

11:12 ‫ֹאמר‬
ֶ ‫וַּי‬ ‫ָהעָ ם‬ ‫ְׁשמּואֵ ל ־ אֶ ל‬ ‫ִמי‬ ‫א ֵמר‬
ֹ ‫ָה‬ ‫ׁשָ אּול‬ 92‫יִ ְמ‬ ‫עָ לֵ ינּו‬

. And the people said
u·iamr e·om al - shmual mi e·amr shaul imlk oli·nu unto Samuel, Who [is] he
and·he-is-saying the·people to Samuel who ? the·one-saying Saul he-shall-reign over·us that said, Shall Saul reign
over us? bring the men, that
‫ְּתנּו‬ ‫אנ ִָׁשים‬
ֲ ‫ָה‬ ‫יתם‬
ֵ ‫ּונְ ִמ‬ : we may put them to death.

ַ ‫ִאיׁש‬ ‫ַּבּי ם‬ ‫ַהּזֶה‬ ‫ִּכי‬ ‫ַהּי ם‬

And Saul said, There

and·he-is-saying Saul not he-shall-be-cput-to-death man in·the·day the·this that the·day death this day: for to day
the LORD hath wrought
‫עָ ׂשָ ה‬ ‫יְ הוָה ־‬ ‫ְּתׁשּועָ ה‬ ‫ְּביִ ְׂש ָראֵ ל‬ : ‫ס‬ salvation in Israel.

kingdom there.

11:15 ‫ֵלכּו‬
ְ ‫ַוּי‬ ‫כָ ל‬ ‫ָהעָ ם ־‬ ‫ַהּגִ ְלּגָל‬ ‫ַוּי ְַמ ִלכּו‬ ‫ׁשָ ם‬ ‫ׁשָ אּול ־ אֶ ת‬

And all the people went
u·ilku kl - e·om e·glgl u·imlku shm ath - shaul to Gilgal; and there they
and·they-are-going all-of the·people the·Gilgal and·they-are-cmaking-king there » Saul made Saul king before the
LORD in Gilgal; and there

peace offerings before the

LORD; and there Saul and
to·faces-of Yahweh in·the·Gilgal and·they-are-sacrificing there sacrifices peace-offerings
