THE CHURCH OF PENTECOST-YOUTH MINISTRY

2024 NATIONAL YOUTH QUIZ GUIDELINES

A. PREAMBLE
• There shall be two (2) separate competitions, that is, the QUESTIONS AND
ANSWERS Competition and the BIBLE BEE Competition.
• The Contest should start from the LOCAL LEVEL. Under no circumstance should
candidates be hand-picked for the District, Area, Zonal, Super Zonal and National level
Competitions. Any candidate who is identified to be hand-picked will be
disqualified.
• The Bible Bee Contestants should be separate from the Question and Answers
Contestants. No contestant will be allowed to compete in both competitions.
• There will be fifteen (15) Zones in this year’s competition. Find attached the various
zones and their respective areas.
• After the zonal level, contestants will meet for the super- zonal contest at three (3)
centres as follows;

Accra East Zone Bompata Zone Sunyani Zone
Accra west Zone Kwadaso Zone Techiman Zone
Volta Zone Ejisu Zone Tamale Zone
Koforidua Zone Nkawkaw Zone Wa Zone

• The winners from the super zonal centres will meet at the National Level for the Grand
Finale Competition.

B. AGE LIMITS
JUNIOR: 13 to 19 years
SENIOR: 20 to 35 years
• Contestants should not exceed the age limit by the time of the National level Competition.

• Contestants should contest for the category their ages qualifies them to. Contestants less
than 20 years will not be allowed to compete in the senior category.
• Candidates’ Birth Certificates will be inspected at the National Level.

C. COMPETITION ONE (1): BIBLE BEE

• This segment creates the avenue for contestants to compete based on the number of
verses of the Bible they have committed to memory.

• All contestants will go through all the rounds. The one with the highest marks after
computing the marks for all the rounds will emerge as a winner.

• If the time is up while a verse that is being recited is not complete, the contestant will
have the benefit of completing that verse.

• Recitation will take into consideration accuracy, clarity and interactivity of

Contestants. Interactivity means contestants should be active and be able to use actions
and gestures during the recitation.
• All recitations should strictly be from English Standard Version (ESV) only.

• Any verse that is quoted wrongly or paraphrased or not clearly heard will not attract any
mark.

• Any verse recited by a contestant cannot be repeated by the same contestant in

subsequent rounds of the same contest. However, a contestant may recite verses that
have been recited by other contestants in the same contest as it’s possible they may
have chosen those verses in their preparation for the competition.

• This competition shall be on individual basis. That is, every Local/District/Area/Zone is

expected to present only one candidate for this competition.

• Contestants should not skip any verse(s) or chapter(s) from the books they have chosen.
Any verse(s) or chapter(s) skipped will be deducted from the total score of the contestant.

• Contestants will be given a number of verses to recite within a given time as follows;

JUNIOR CATEGORY
Local Level
Round 1
Contestants will recite 30 continuous verses of scripture in 300 seconds (5min) from
the following Old Testament books: Jonah, Micah, Nahum. Recitation should be within
the selected books.

Round 2
Contestants will recite the book of 1 John in 1050 seconds (17 min 30sec)

Round 3:
This round will comprise two (2) segments; Quote and I Quote and Recitation of
Given Quotations. The book for this round is Philippians.

a. Quote and I Quote

Contestants will take turns to quote a given number of memory verses among themselves.
All quotations must come from the book of Philippians.
Note:
• The number of times (rounds of recitation) will be determined by the Quiz
Master/Mistress.
• All quotations should be four (4) verses (to be recited at once) and not single
verses.
• Contestants cannot repeat verses they have already recited in the contest.

b. Recitation of Given Quotations

Contestants will be given specific verses from the book of Philippians to recite. The
number of verses will be determined by the Quiz Master/Mistress.

District Level
Round 1
Contestants will recite 40 continuous verses of scripture in 400 seconds (6min
40sec) from the following Old Testament books: Jonah, Micah, Nahum. Recitation
should be within the selected books.

Round 2
Contestants will recite the book of 1 John in 1050 seconds (17 min 30sec)

Round 3:
This round will comprise two (2) segments; Quote and I Quote and Recitation of
Given Quotations. The book for this round is Philippians.

a. Quote and I Quote

Contestants will take turns to quote a given number of memory verses among themselves.
All quotations must come from the book of Philippians.

Round 3:

This round will comprise two (2) segments; Quote and I Quote and Recitation of
Given Quotations. The book for this round is Philippians.

This round will comprise two (2) segments; Quote and I Quote and Recitation of
Given Quotations. The book for this round is Ephesians

Round 3:
This round will comprise two (2) segments; Quote and I Quote and Recitation of
Given Quotations. The book for this round is Ephesians.

a. Quote and I Quote

Contestants will take turns to quote a given number of memory verses among themselves.
All quotations must come from the book of Ephesians.
Note:

✓ Judging
• There will be a team of 3-6 judges with digital bibles who will check and confirm all
scriptures recited.
• The Coach(es) may channel all their complaints to the Quiz Committee.

✓ Scoring
• Every memory verse recited correctly will attract 1 mark.
• Every skipped verse will attract a deduction of 1 mark.

The following categorisations will form the rounds for the Competition:
i. Old Testament
ii. New Testament
iii. Church History & Current Affairs and National Church
Affairs
iv. Bible Study & Home Cell Manual, Devotional Guide.
v. Doctrine of CoP, Vision 2028, Youth Ministry Vision 2027 and School of
Apologetics Level 1 & 2 Handbook

• Detailed instructions would be provided on the question papers.

• The National Quiz Committee will only supply questions for the Area, Zonal, Super Zonal
and Grand Finale Competitions.
• Youth Ministry Regional Co-ordinators will ensure that all Districts organise the local and
District level competitions.

d. Problem of the Day

• This will be selected from all the areas of study including the Old and New Testament
books given.
• Printed questions would be given to candidates to answer.
• The Quiz Master will collect scripts, mark and add the marks to the groups’ already earned
marks.

e. Participation
• Each Local, District, Area and Zone would be represented by 2 participants for each
category.
• The Candidates who qualify from the Local should progress to District, Area, Zone, Super
zonal and National Levels.

• Candidates who are hand- picked from the local without having gone through any
competition at the local level will be disqualified.
• Again, candidates who are selected from different Districts for Area and Zonal competitions
would be disqualified at the National Level.

f. Standardization of Quiz Questions

• All answers should strictly be given from the English Standard Version (ESV)
• The 2016 edition and the Gideons edition (2013) of the ESV Bible are highly
recommended.

g. Levels of the Competition

1. From the Local Level to the Zonal Level, the quiz would be held in two levels; Level 1
and Level 2

2. All contestants will participate in level one but participation in the second level would
strictly be by merit.

i. Level One
a. All contestants will participate in this level.
b. There shall be three (3) rounds in this level.
c. At the Local/Districts/Area/ zonal Levels, when participating groups are 7 or more, only
the first 5 winners would qualify for the next level.
d. At the Local/Districts/Area/ zonal Levels, when participating groups are less than 7,
that is 6 and below, the first 3 would qualify for the next level.

ii. Level Two

a. There shall be two (2) rounds in this level.
b. Candidates at this level will participate in answering the Problem of the Day.
c. Marks obtained at this level would be added to marks already earned from level one.
d. Those with the highest marks after computing the marks of level one and level two
would emerge as winners.

NOTE: At the National Level, there will be three rounds and Problem of the
Day.

E. GUESTS OF HONOUR
Area Youth Pastors/Leaders are required to invite Guest (s) of honour to join the Area Head
at the Area, Zonal and the Super Zonal Level Competitions. Other dignified people outside
the church may be invited in consultation with leadership.

F. VIDEO COVERAGE
Area Youth Pastors/Leaders are also required to take a high-quality video coverage of the
competition at the Area, zonal and super zonal Levels which can be shown on PENT TV
and/or the Youth Ministry’s Social Media Handles. The setting for the programme should be
very nice and suitable for public consumption. Copies of the Video Coverage on pendrives or
google drives are to be sent to the Youth Ministry Directorate through the chairman of the
National Youth Quiz committee.

G. AWARDS
Leaders at all levels of the competition are required to give handsome awards to Contestants.
Awards should include Certificates. Awards given should be stated in the Quiz report.
