Introduction
This meeting pertains to students that scored below or approaching on the 3rd
grade TCAP Achievement Test and are currently required to attend tutoring in
4th grade.
State law mandates that these students must meet adequate growth on the
4th grade ELA TCAP Test to be promoted to the 5th grade.
Tonight, we will review a flowchart, examine adequate growth, discuss the
importance of attendance, and review the timeline for the remainder of the
year.
We will have a question and answer session at the end, so we ask that
families hold questions until the end of the presentation.
The PowerPoint presentation has been posted to the KCS website.
Finally, we want to thank you for attending this important meeting.

Adequate Growth
For those that participated in Summer Learning, approaching students were
required to make adequate growth.
For Summer Learning, adequate growth was defined as making a 5% point gain
from the last 3rd grade ELA TCAP Achievement Test to the Summer Learning
Posttest.
Per the law, both Below and Approaching students will be required to make
adequate growth on the 4th grade ELA TCAP Achievement Test.
Adequate growth will be calculated differently for students with required tutoring
and participating in the 4th grade ELA TCAP Achievement Test.
The new adequate growth will measure progress between the 3rd and 4th grade ELA
TCAP Achievement Tests.
The state will share results after school ends; therefore, we will be unable to alert
families of retention or promotion until after the scores have been shared with us.
The state is working on defining this and will provide information later this school
year.
We will communicate this final information once it is released.
