"Honey, what's going on? I can't hear the song again", Tade
shouted from the bathroom as she showered.
"Yes, it is a recording that's playing now," Tunji replied from the
bedroom.
"Oh! No wonder. Maybe it's a choir rehearsal recording." She
said.
Few minutes later, Tade was done bathing. She came out of the
bathroom and walked straight to the table, she dried the water
on her skin using a towel. She was about to put on her night
robe when she heard her phone playing a conversation of
herself with someone. She looked at her husband with a
questioning look.
"Do you care to listen, too? Because I'm enjoying every bit of
this.", Tunji said.
"Who's that by the way? I can't remember recording my
conversation with anyone of recent.", Tade asked, smiling as
she put on her night robe. She couldn't hear the recording
audibly. She afterward walked to the bed and sat next to her
husband.

"Don't tell me you have forgotten him so quickly. But then,

don't you think it's an offense to record someone without
his/her consent?" Tunji asked jokingly.
"Are you joking? Do you know how many times I recorded our
meetings during our courtship days?", She replied laughing, as
the scene of the day she did the recording played in her head.
"Oh my! I think I have to be careful with whatever I say in this
house henceforth. Who knows where I'll end up hearing my
matter.", Tunji said, giving her a playful punch.
"I can't remember why I recorded it then, maybe for memory's
sake. I sometimes record our dates so I can listen to them again
when I get back home, you know?"
"And what do you stand to gain from that if I may ask?" Tunji
questioned, eyeing her suspiciously.
"I laugh at every moment, enjoy myself, and feel happy."
"I'd like to pray and seek God for more clarity. I think you have
to pray about this too. I'll reach out to you once I'm done." Her
phone played.
"Thank God for this decision you made. What would have
become of me?" Tunji asked, being grateful.

"At most, God would have given you a replacement. As for me,
maybe I would have been a second wife to that wicked man!"
"And who could be as good as you?" Tunji said as he cuddled
his wife.

How it all started...
Two years ago...
Tade received a call from the marriage committee of her church
that she should come around. She instantly suspected that a
brother's proposal must be on its way. She had always secretly
wished that this day would come. Tade has had stories upon
stories of the whole marriage committee stuff, and this was her
time now.
"My prayers have been answered. Thank God, my waiting
period is finally over." Tade silently whispered to herself as she
made her way to the church premises the next day. That was
where the committees always met.
"How are you, Sister...?" The elderly woman asked politely.
"Tade, ma."
"God bless you. Do you know why you are here?"

"Erm, I think so, ma," Tade replied, shyly.

"Okay, so straight to the point. A brother came by few days ago
to state his intent concerning you. Before He comes around to
meet you, we would like you to go for a medical test to be sure
that you both are medically compatible."
"Okay, ma," Tade replied nervously. She remembered that she
was an AS and it has always been her prayer point that her
Husband will be an AA to avoid the risk of having an SS as a
child. To her, that's part of her convictions- having an AA as a
fiance.
"We suggest you go to UCH for a proper medical result. We'll
book an appointment for you. Please, let me know when you
will be available."
"Alright, ma. What if I already know my genotype, ma?"
"We still need to confirm, you know? And again, we are not
only after the genotype. Your rhesus factor is also necessary."
"Okay, ma."
"We need to check for the possibility of diseases too, like sickle
cell anemia, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), HIV/AIDS,
Hepatitis, and so on."
"God forbid bad thing!" Tade said vehemently under her breath.

Tade's genotype was compatible with the so-called brother
because he was an AA. Their Rhesus factor also matched
perfectly. The committee assured her that the brother would
be coming soon for his proposal. Few days later, he came by.
"Good afternoon, Sis."
"Good....afternoon, sir. I don't think I know you, do I?" Tade
asked out of curiosity. She wasn't sure if he was the one she'd
been expecting.
"I'm Godfrey. You may not know me, I just came to Nigeria
recently."
"Oh," Tade's smiles broadened.
"Okay, so, straight to the point. Actually, I was led to you.",
Godfrey said.
"By?", Tade asked jokingly
"God, of course.", Godfrey said and they both laughed.
"Alright o.", Tade said.
"So, on a serious note, God told me that you are my wife."

"Hmmm, I'll get back to you after I have my answer from God.",
Tade promised.
"Alright. Please, take your time. I'll patiently await your
response."
"No problem. Thank you, sir.", Tade said and left.
As Tade walked away, she heard some group of Sisters in her
fellowship gossiping about the brother that just met her. She
stylishly waited so she could get a grasp of what they were
saying.
"He just came back from the United States o." A Sister
commented.
"I heard he'll be around for about two months." Another Sister
said.
"Does that mean he wouldn't be staying for long?" The first
sister asked.
"What if he just came to do his wedding before returning?" The
quiet one among them reasoned.
"Awwwn, the fiancee must be lucky then. Free ticket to the
US!" The first Sister said.
"But wait, is he engaged already?" One of them whispered.

"Why do you ask? You want to hook up with him?" The quiet
sister queried sharply.
"You know my slogan na, if an opportunity comes..."
"Seize it!"
"I pity you guys, be throwing yourselves at brothers o. Do you
even know what that means?" The quiet Sister said sternly.
"What?" The first sister asked, sarcastically.
"You are cheap!" The quiet sister said bluntly, walking off.
"Why didn't you wait, so you can receive the best response to
your rant. Nonsense!"

After a few days, Tade received a call from Godfrey, he wanted

to know her response. She told him to give her more time.
From their conversation, she noticed his impatience.
"Must he do his wedding before he returns to the States?" Tade
snapped after she hung the call.

"Alright, I'll say a YES." Tade replied on her second meeting with
Godfrey. Although, she didn't get a strong leading from God to

go ahead, she felt she could go on with the relationship first

before getting a solid conviction. Also, she didn't want to delay
him any longer so she had to succumb. She hoped to pray more
about it as time went on, during their courtship.
"Thanks so much! I'm so happy." Godfrey said happily.
"You are welcome. So?" Tade said, distracted by her phone.
"I guess we'll have to inform the committee first, then your
parents.", Godfrey said
"And your parents?", Tade replied, confused.
"I don't have parents.", Godfrey said.
"Oh, so sorry about that.", Tade replied, feeling sorry.
"Thanks, I'm over it now. They both died in a car accident about
seven years ago when I was in the university."
"So tragic!"
"Yep! Thank God for His sustenance over me ever since.",
Godfrey said, using the back of his hands to wipe the balls of
sweat that were now forming on his forehead.
"Don't you have any other family member here in Nigeria, no
siblings?"
"None."

"Really?" Tade questioned.

"Yes, I don't," Godfrey replied quietly
"Whoa. You must have been lonely then..." Tade said pitifully,
though not too convinced.
"More reason why I need a companion in life, thank God I
found you. That's why we need to hasten things up, get married
on time, and then settle down in the States together."
"I heard you would be leaving in about a month now,"
"Yes."
"And you want us to do our wedding before then?" Tade asked,
bewildered.
"Isn't it possible? I mean, we know we are meant for each other
already, so why delay? Again, we can't know all about ourselves
in courtship but rather in marriage."
"But that doesn't mean we shouldn't have quality time together
before marriage."
"Quality time is relative, it could be a week, two weeks, we
don't need to spend a decade together before we have a
quality time together."
"You know what, I think I need to pray more about this. I don't
think I'm ready to be in a hurry to get married. Why should I?

When I will be spending a larger part of my life with my

husband." Tade sensed a red sign and she wasn't ready to take
chances, not anymore.
"So, what do you mean by this?"
"I'd like to pray and seek God for more clarity. I think you have
to pray about this too. I'll reach out to you once I'm done."
"Are you rejecting my offer already? What if you end up taking
more time than necessary?"
"What is necessary for me to do is to take my time to pray well
and be sure I'm ready for all this. I need to know God is
involved, I mean, I wish to get married soon, but not this."
"But didn't you pray before now?"
"I'll get back to you when I'm done. If it's within this month, we
can meet physically. But if you would have traveled by then, we
can speak electronically." Tade said instead.
"And if it's a yes by then?"
"Nothing stops us from doing our courtship online, and then we
can properly plan for our wedding without haste, and my
coming to join you too, you know?"

Tade went back to seek God's face for more clarity. She was
convinced that Godfrey wasn't hers with the affirmation of the
scripture God gave her in Proverbs 16:25 "There is a way that
seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of
death."
She called him to relay her reply, that was a month after he
traveled back to the States.

Few months later, she heard that Godfrey was actually a

married man. He impregnated a lady back then in Nigeria
during his University days, eight years ago. The lady's parents
forced them both to do a traditional wedding but after he lost
his parents, he traveled out, neglecting the Lady and their baby.

Tade was happy that she didn't tie the knot before she
discovered this huge secret about Godfrey. She however fears
that another lady, a gullible one could end up being caught in
his web of deceit. Tade got engaged to her husband six months
later.

Back to the present...

"Whose proposal was the best, my dear?" Tunji asked, jokingly.
"I can remember how nervous you were then." Tade laughed.
"Me, nervous ke? Never!"
"I think you stammered in between your speech too, with your
Hmm hmm..."
"Seriously? I'm sure I tried my best. I was pretty much
composed. Are you really sure about this?"
"Should I bring out the evidence?" Tade asked, flipping through
her phone.
"Evidence, as in? Don't tell me you recorded that too?" Tunji
asked, with shock written over his face.
"Yep!" Tade said, racing out of the bedroom. Tunji followed
behind swiftly.

NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR

In the early hours of October 5, I saw a scenario played vividly

in my head for few minutes as I lay down to sleep. Waking up, I
started to type out as God helped me remember.
This book isn't just a random work, it's divine. It affects every
life's endeavor, not just in the aspect of marriage.
Are you gullible- easily deceived?
When matters arise, how well do you seek God to know his
mind, or do you just venture into the unknown?
Actually, as humans, we can be gullible because the tendency is
there. Our foremother, Eve was gullible too, but then, she fell.
It's one thing to be gullible, it's another thing to be deceived.
To be safe from the heartbreak that those who fall into the
hands of deceivers get, let God dictate your every move. Our
God is ever faithful, he wouldn't want any of his beloved to be
prey in the hands of deceivers.
Don't prove to know it all because, in reality, we don't know the
heart of men, especially deceivers. He or she comes like a
sheep but is nothing but a pretentious wolf. Only God knows
and sees the intent of men.

Above all, to be free from the hands of the chief deceiver- the
devil, you have to know God. Make your ways right before him,
commit your ways unto him, and he will direct your path.

PRAYER TIME...

Please, do well to sincerely pray these prayers. As you do so,

may you receive an answer of peace.

 Father, cause my eyes to be opened and my heart to be
enlightened that I may know you.

 Father, please give me the grace to seek you diligently,

and to patiently wait until I receive answers to my
petitions.

 Father, help me not to make any rash decisions anymore. I

will not be in a haste to make critical or even minute
decisions.

 Father, please incline my ears so that I may distinctively

recognize your voice from the voices of men or my
emotions.

 Father, help me that I will never take the wrong step and
path in life. If I have, please redirect my steps back to your
will.

 Father, please hinder me from going into a wrong

relationship or partnership.

 Father, peradventure I'm currently in a relationship that

you don't approve of, please give me the grace to make
amends and draw the red line.

 Father, please help me to get it right in the choice of a

friend, life partner, business partner, etc. Help me to
always choose right, Lord.

 Father, the grace not to fall into the deception of deceivers,

grant unto me. And please, help me not to knowingly or
unknowingly end up being a Deceiver.

 Father, let every attempt of the devil and his cohorts in

making me miss your will be aborted.
