Product Description: Body Wall Thickness

Basic Input Data :

Working Pressure Pw = 5000 psi

(From API 6A (CLAUSE 4.3.3.2))

Max. Allowable Stress at Hydrostatic Test Pressure = St = 0.833 x Sy = 62500 psi

= 4394.18 kgf/cm2

(From API 6A (CLAUSE 4.3.3.2))

PCP Description: Main Body Bore

Input Data:

Inside Dia of PCP Di = 86.25 mm

Outside Dia of PCP Do = 135 mm

Inner Radius of PCP R1 = 4.315 cm 1.698 inch

Outer Radius of PCP R2 = 6.75 cm 2.657 inch

Wall Thickness of PCP T = 2.43 cm 0.956 inch

Distortion Energy Theory Method:

Max. Permissible Internal

Pressure for Design Stress Intensity Sm at WP = Pt-WP = 2.31 x Sm x [T / (2 * R2)] x [1 - {T /( 2 * R2)}]

= 1201.46 kgf/cm2

= 17088.78 Psi

17088.78 psi > 5000 psi

Hence, Safe

Max. Permissible Internal Pressure for Hydrostatic

Test Pressure HTP = Pt-HTP = 2.31 x St x [T / (2 * R2)] x [1 - {T /( 2 * R2)}]

= 1501.83kgf/cm2

= 21361.04 psi

21361.04 psi > 7500 psi

Hence, Safe
Lame's Theory of Stress Analysis (Tri-axial Stress):

(API 6A, Clause 4.3.3.3)

The Inner Surface of the Thick Cylinder is Most Highly Stressed Surface.

Hence, Calculating Stresses for the Inner Surface for Test Pressure:

Outside Radius of PCP = R2

Inside Radius of PCP = R1

Hydrostatic Test Pressure = Pt

Ratio R2 / R1 =R = 1.564

Tangential Stress = Sc = Pt [(R2 + 1) / (R2 - 1)] (Tensile)

= 1254.66kgf/cm2

= 17845.46 PSi

Radial Stress = Sr = - Pt (Compressive)

= -527.3 kgf/cm2

= -7500 psi

Longitudinal Stress = Sa = Pt / (R2 - 1)(Assumed to be equally distributed)

= 363.68 kgf/cm2
= 5172.75 Psi

AS PER DISTORTION ENERGY THEORY,

[(Sc - Sr)2 + (Sr - Sa)2 + (Sa - Sc )2 ] = OR < [2(Sy)2 ]

(Sc - Sr)2 + (Sr - Sa)2 + (Sa - Sc)2 = 4763099.65 (psi)²

And we will takeSy = 2(Sy)2

= 55609518.86 (psi)²

4763099.65 (psi)² < 55609518.86 (psi)²

Hence, Safe

Actual Thickness Tactual = 24.3 mm

6.65 mm < 24.3 mm HENCE, SAFE
