2. Explain how this quote demonstrates

The quote “Study while others are sleeping; work while others are loafing; prepare
while others are playing; and dream while others are wishing.” by William Arthur Ward,
embodies several principles of diligence, discipline, and ambition. In my opinion, I will
explain how each part of the quote demonstrates these qualities:
“Study while others are sleeping” - This part highlights the idea of commitment
to learning and self-improvement. It encourages individuals to use their time wisely,
even when others are resting or not actively pursuing their goals. It promotes the idea
of continuous self-education and a strong work ethic.
“Work while others are loafing” - This part emphasizes the importance of
productivity and effort. Instead of idleness or procrastination, it encourages people to
stay focused and work diligently, especially when others around them are being lazy
or unproductive. It champions the value of hard work and determination.

4
BUSINESS COMMUNICATION PROF. PETER J JUNG

“Prepare while others are playing” - This component underscores the

importance of planning and preparation. It suggests that one should invest time in
getting ready for future challenges and opportunities while others may be indulging in
leisure activities. It reflects a forward-thinking mindset and the ability to seize
opportunities that arise.
“Dream while others are wishing” - The final part of the quote encourages
people to have aspirations and ambitions. Rather than merely wishing for things to
happen, it inspires individuals to have big dreams and to actively pursue those dreams.
It underscores the value of vision, determination, and the willingness to make those
dreams a reality.
Collectively, this quote encourages individuals to take initiative, be proactive, and
make the most of their time and potential. It promotes a strong work ethic, a focus on
self-improvement, and a mindset that doesn't settle for mediocrity but instead strives
for excellence and success. It serves as a reminder to be diligent and purposeful in
pursuing one's goals and ambitions, even when others may not share the same level
of commitment or dedication.

3. Who you are and how his quote inspires you

My name is Jasmine, a third-year student at the Ho Chi Minh city University of
Technology, majoring in Industrial Management. I am an ambitious individual with
numerous big dreams that I am actively pursuing. My strengths lie in my ability to
explore and discover new things, and I am extremely diligent in my work and studies,
as this is the sole reason for my future success. I have a passion for creativity and
constantly seek fresh and innovative ideas to make my life more exciting.
Additionally, I am someone who values discipline and perseverance as my life's
motto, helping me accomplish both short-term goals and inch closer to achieving my
larger dreams.
The quote by William Arthur Ward “Study while others are sleeping; work while
others are loafing; prepare while others are playing; and dream while others are
wishing” deeply resonates with me. It inspires me to be a self-starter, constantly
seeking knowledge and self-improvement. This quote is a reminder of the
importance of being proactive and disciplined, even when it's more convenient to be
complacent or follow the crowd. It motivates me to take initiative, maintain a strong

work ethic, be well-prepared for the future, and never stop dreaming and pursuing
my aspirations.
In essence, it reflects my belief in the value of ambition, hard work, and a mindset
that never settles for mediocrity but strives for success, regardless of what others are
doing.
4. Provide practical examples that illustrate your implementation of the
quote in your life
I discovered this quote when I was in 7th grade during a time when I was under a
lot of academic pressure. I was getting depressed because I spent most of my time
studying and did not have any time for relaxation. Eventually, I lost motivation and
energy for life. I gave up on studying and spent my days idly, watching TV and using
my phone. As a result, my academic performance rapidly declined. After two months
of feeling down, I stumbled upon William Arthur Ward's quote: “Study while others
are sleeping; work while others are loafing; prepare while others are playing; and
dream while others are wishing.” It did not immediately strike me as particularly
special, but for some reason, after reading it 4-5 times, I suddenly realized
something profound. I felt like I had been “wrong” for choosing such a lax approach
to life instead of changing my study habits and trying harder.

Since then, I redesigned this quote

and created an image of it, which I set as
my phone wallpaper. It changed my
thinking, my approach to learning, and I
continued to strive on my academic
journey. Whenever I felt like giving up on
my rigorous studies to relax and enjoy
life, I would open my phone and read it
to remind myself to keep pushing.

The results and achievements I've

attained today are in part due to the
profound impact of this quote by the
great educator William Arthur Ward on
my mindset and thinking. It's been nearly 10 years now, but I still keep this quote in
my mind and use it as my phone wallpaper.

II. Personal vision statement

1. VISION statement (Where do you want to be?)
Currently, I am a third-year student majoring in Business Administration, receiving
specialized knowledge in the field. Alongside my studies, I have gained a year of
