2. Fluid statics – pressure distribution and measurement, Hydrostatic force on submerged surfaces
(planar and curved), Buoyancy, Rigid-body motion (translation and rotation)
3. Bernoulli’s equation and applications, Flow measurement, Head loss in pipe flow
4. Fluid kinematics – Eulerian and Lagrangian descriptions, Accelerating field, Control volume and
system
5. Stream function, Vorticity and Circulation, Kinematic decomposition of flow, Potential flows,
Potential function
6. Reynolds transport theorem, Integral balances – mass, momentum and energy

7. Differential analysis of flow, Navier-Stokes equation, Unsteady unidirectional flows, Solution of
Laplace equation
8. Dimensional analysis and similitude
9. Viscous flows, Stokes law, Skin drags, and pressure drag, Lubrication approximation
10. Boundary layer theory, Blasius solution, Boundary layer separation, Drag and lift force on an
immersed body
11. Compressible flows, Transportation of fluids – pumps, design of pumps, Blowers, and compressors
12. Introduction to turbulence modeling
