Hi families of 1S!

I hope you all had a nice weekend. This week continues my classroom takeover. We will learn
lots of exciting things this week!

Curriculum updates:

Social Emotional Learning: Students are working on taking deep breaths to refocus their
attention during learning times.

Phonics: Students will continue to practice writing words with five sounds and suffixes -ed and
-ing. Students are making great progress with this challenging task!

Literacy: Last week we wrapped up our study of the sun moon and stars! Students engaged in a
process of brainstorming ideas, writing poems about the sun, and giving feedback to each other.
We ended the week by illustrating the final versions of the poems! Students did a fantastic job
creating high-quality work and meeting with a partner for feedback. To celebrate their hard work,
I will be hanging up their final poems in the hallway outside the classroom. Please feel free to
stop by and check out the students’ work. On Monday we will begin an exciting new unit, stay
tuned!

Math: Students will continue to work on addition and subtraction within ten by playing a variety
of math games and solving problems in their math journals. Students are doing an excellent job
of using strategies to solve problems, and rearranging groups of numbers to make ten!
