Do architects really speak carbon?
The last decade has seen a wellspring of vocabulary
around sustainability emerge and gain prominence.
But though we have the language, do we really have
the literacy? What exactly is embodied carbon? Do
you know your building’s carbon footprint? How can
you trim that footprint in the design process? And
why does it matter in the first place?
We are proud to launch ‘Unboxing Carbon’, a four-
hour introductory course providing architects and
associated professionals/students the knowledge and
tools to calculate embodied CO2 for building materi-
als - a necessity to make healthier choices in the
design process.

Base course: 2 hours
Carbon and Materials ‘Base course’, an course intro-
ducing the principles of measuring carbon emissions,
understanding the global implications of climate
change from the built environment, and conversing
intelligibly with clients on decarbonization regula-
tions and possibilities.
Includes a workshop with materials, with a focus on
dialog and the intuitive understanding of embodied
carbon.
Target group: Everyone, including partners, archi-
tects, engineers, interior designers, business develop-
ment and communications, etc.
Number of participants: Up to 50 people
Total time of ‘Base course’: 2 hours
Data course: +2 hours
Carbon and Materials ‘Data course’, an course intro-
ducing the principles of measuring carbon emissions,
finding, understanding and working with the availa-
ble data.
Includes a workshop with hands-on experience using
EPD data to understand materials and their carbon
impacts per m2. Course material includes Henning
Larsens templates in Excel and InDesign, which pro-
vide the framework for your team to produce the first
pages of your office’s Material Carbon catalog. As
part of the course fee, this initial work will also be
quality controlled.
Target group: Architects and constructing architects
involved in design/material selection/proposals/de-
tailing and specification writing.
Number of participants: 10-30 people
Total time of ‘Base course’ + ‘Data course’: 4 hours
We recommend having both the Carbon and
Materials ‘Base course’ and ‘Data course’
combined in a four-hour session.
