Filipino 101
1. Research 10 uncommonly used Filipino words, their definition, and example for each when used in a
sentence.

Filipino Word: Dupil

Definition: It is an amulet, or anything that is believed to have the power to save the person who owns it from
any harm. The more popular Tagalog words currently being used are anting-anting and agimat.
Sentence Example: Ginamit ni Juan ang dupil upang maligtas ang kaniyang Sarili sa kapahamakan.

Filipino Word: Anluwage

Definition: a worker who builds or repairs wooden structures or their structural parts.
Sentence Example: Ihanap moko ng anluwageng kayang gumawa ng Lamesang pabilog para sa ating sala.

Filipino Word: Sambat

Definition: A common tool used in eating that usually has three or four stiff metal points attached to a handle.
Sentence Example: Mas madaling kumain kung may hawak na Sambat.

Filipino Word: Karsunsilyo

Definition: men’s underwear shorts characterized by loose fit.
Sentence Example: Ginamit ko ang bagong biniling Karsonsilyo ng aking magulang

Filipino word: Duyog

Definition: An occasion when the sun looks like it is completely or partially covered with a dark circle because
the moon is between the sun and the Earth.
Sentence Example: Marami ang namamangha sa duyog.

Filipino Word: Pulot-Gata

Definition: A trip or vacation taken by a newly married couple, A period of harmony immediately following
marriage.
Sentence Example: Pagtapos nilang ikasal ay lumipad sila papuntang Paris para sa kanilang pulot-gata.

Filipino Word: Labaha

Definition: a keen-edged cutting instrument for shaving or cutting hair.
Sentence Example: Ginamit ko ang Labaha sa cr upang ipang-ahit sa Aking balbas.

Filipino Word: Batlag

Definition: a vehicle moving on wheels.
Sentence Example: Nabangga ang aming minamanehong batlag kaninang umaga.

Filipino word: Sulatroniko

Definition: A system for sending messages from one computer to another computer. : messages that aresent
electronically from one computer to another.
Sentence Example: Ako’y nagpadala sa sulatroniko ng aking mensahe sa aking guro.

Filipino Word: Kalupi

Definition: A container that resembles a money wallet.
Sentence Example: Nawala ng aking kaklase ang kanyang kalupi noong isang araw.

2. Create a blog post about these words using the blog you created.
3. Choose three of these words and video someone (or yourself) to pronounce these three words using all of
them in individual sentences. Upload these videos on YouTube.
4. Embed those videos as part of your post.

Thinking Exercise

1. What are other blogging platforms besides WordPress that piqued your interest? Why?
Tumblr is the one that piqued my interest among all the blogging sites. It is because Tumblr is a free
blogging site. This implies that a person doesn't require to spend for anything and nothing to worry about
money. This site is good for the current generation and therefore made me conclude that once someone
reads my blog, they can precisely get attention by reading and conveying it to their colleagues. Another
blogging site I prefer is Squarespace. It is a 'hosted' solution. This means that it runs on its servers and you
don't have to install software on your computer to use the product. It lets you create a professional site in a
web browser without coding, and edit it easily thanks to a user-friendly content management system (CMS).
Hence, I can use it with convenience in my work and also personal space

2. What basic principles of design did you follow in your blog layout? Explain.
The elements, or principles, of visual design include contrast, balance, emphasis, movement, white
space, proportion, hierarchy, repetition, rhythm, pattern, unity, and variety. These principles of design
function jointly to develop something that is aesthetically fascinating and optimizes the user experience.

3. Besides WordPress and Piktochart, what are the other cloud computing software you have used so far?
From my perspective, I use Microsoft office, particularly when accomplishing certain activities for
school. Utilizing this software, I can skillfully do an assignment and finalize it on time, for it is user-
friendly. There is a new cloud-based called Microsoft Office 365. Through this, you can create, edit and
share from any PC and another device in real-time, connect with colleagues and others.

Challenge

Add you classmates blog to your reading list (when logged into your WordPress account simply visit
their site, and click on follow). Update your blog at least once a week. Talk about anything that interests you
and your readers. Comment on your classmates posts and respond to any comments given to you.
