Proof of Address (POA)

Where OVD furnished by the customer does not have updated address, the following documents or the equivalent e-
documents there of shall be deemed to be OVD for the limited purpose of proof of address.

• Utility bill of not more than 2 months old of any service provider (Electricity, post paid mobile, piped gas ,
water bill )
• Property municipal tax paid receipt
• PPOs issued to retired employees by Government department, public sector undertakings if they contain the
address.
• Letter of allotment of accommodation from employer issued by Central, State governments, statutory
regulatory body, public sector undertakings, selected scheduled commercial banks etc.,

Customer shall submit OVD with current address within a period of 3 months of submitting he documents specified
above.

This, however, is not a general rule and it is left to the judgment of the banks to decide whether this simplified procedure
can be adopted in respect of any customer.

Aadhaar card is accepted as proof of both identity and address.

Now, the introduction is not required to open any bank account.

Different periodicities have been prescribed for updation or Re KYC records depending on the risk perception of the
bank and all formalities for KYC normally taken at the time of opening the account to be followed.
As per Amendment to Master Direction on KYC as per Aadhar and other laws amendment ordinance changes have
been notified by RBI on 29.05.2019.

• Banks allowed to carry out Aadhar authentication/offline verification of an individual who voluntarily uses for
ID purpose.
• Proof possession of Aadhar added to the list of OVD in such a form as are issued by UIDAI.
• Individuals desirous of receiving any benefit or subsidy, the bank shall obtain customers Aadhar and carry e-
KYC authentication.
• Non-DBT beneficiary the RE (Reputed entities) obtain a certified copy of any OVD containing ID, address and
Photograph.
• REs for non-DBT Customers while submitting Aadhar for customer due diligence redact or block out Aadhar
number.
• OVD furnished does not contain updated address deemed OVDs can be submitted (like utility bills of not more
than 2 months etc., provided that the OVD updated with current address is submitted within 3 months.
• For existing nonindividual customers, PAN / Form 60 is obtained within such timelines failing, which
temporarily ceased till PAN / Form 60 submitted by giving notice before a seizure.
• For NRIs PIOs, certifying authorities have been specified for verification of OVD like Indian Embassy, courts,
etc.
