DEFINITIONS
Piping is a Naval means of communication.
Piping is made by the quartermaster with an
instrument called the boatswain call and
sometimes involves the use of verbal orders.

Quartermaster: He is the eye of the Ship and is
positioned at the quartermaster lobby by the
braw at all times. As the eye of the Ship, the
quartermaster is to always remain alert, focus
on his braw and incident every activity including
the movement of personnel and visitors coming
onboard.

dressed.

General Call: this pipe is made before a
verbal order when it involves more than
just one personnel or when an information
is to be passed to the Ship Company.

officer or a senior officer is approaching
your braw. It is made to alert the OOD,
AOOD and Chief of the Officer.

coming onboard.

• Sunset has no fixed timing


for piping. Its conducted
when the sun sets for the day.

it is also pertinent to know that
