STAINLESS STEEL AND NICKEL CHROMIUM ALLOY SURFACE TREATMENT — REPAIRS

1. Stainless Steel and Nickel Chromium Alloy — Surface Treatment
A. General
Surface treatment is not usually required after rework on stainless steel and nickel chromium alloys.
B. Procedure
(1) See Cadmium Plated or Phosphated Metals - Surface Treatment, 51-21-26, Repair for plated
alloys.
NOTE: Stainless steel requires passivation after rework. Exercise extreme care not to
contaminate adjacent structure with chemicals used for passivating. Because of the
variety of different CRES materials that may be involved, consult with Gulfstream
Customer Support or appropriate ATA chapter of this manual for particular area to
determine materials involved and then passivate. Refer to QQ-P-35. When component
requires plating subsequent to rework, passivation is not required, but a Type II
corrosion inhibitor should be applied to prevent staining until component is cleaned
and plated.
