Countries should produce food for their own citizens and limit food imports

as much as possible. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is sometimes argued that countries should depend on locally-produced food
sources and reduce the reliance on imported food. Although I agree that this
thinking is beneficial to some extent, I would agree that it is not practical in certain
countries due to their geographical and climatic limitations.
On the one hand, self-production of food offers two notable benefits,
particularly in terms of reducing unemployment and ensuring national food
security. Firstly, when the demand for domestic food production rises, there will
generate employment opportunities for dwellers, particularly in manufacturing and
agriculture, which may lead to mitigate unemployment rate and contribute to
economic development. Furthermore, domestic food production may ensure
national food security. This is because depending on locally-produced may
guarante stable food supply and less vulnerable to external food disruptions such as
national disasters or unprecedented incidents
Despite the aforementioned benefits, national food production poses challenges
for many countries due to various limitations. Some products cannot be planted in
some countries due to their natural conditions. For example, Egypt – the majority
of its land is covered by deserts where it is very difficult for plants to cultivate and
develop. This leads to make cultivation a challenge
In conclusion, while there are some benefits to depend on locally-produced, I am
of concrete opinion that each countries should produce food nationally for dwellers
and limit food imports.

1. Generate employment opportunities, particularly in manufacturing and

agriculture → mitigate unemployment rate → contribute to economic
development
2. Citizens can purchase food at a more affordable price → preclude the need
to pay for tax or logistic costs
3. Ensure national food security → guarante stable food supply + less
vulnerable to external food disruptions such as national disasters or
unprecedented incidents
4. Ensure food safety → due to long transportation imported food is subjected
to chemical treatment (preservatives) to maintain the freshness (prevent the
quality of food from deteriorating) → unsafe
Egypt – the majority of its land is covered by deserts → make cultivation a
challenge
Japan – grapple with natural disasters → hinder agricultural practices
