− If the blast is to be fired electrically all exposed wires shall be coiled up and if
possible, placed in the mouth of the holes or kept covered by something other than a
metal plate.
− If the firing circuit has been set up before the thunder storm came on the persons at
the site should withdraw at the earliest and the blast should be fired off immediately.

DEALING WITH MISFIRE

• If fuse is on surface, replace the surface fuse.

Standard Operating Procedure Dept.: Mines Page No. Page 18 of 93
• Fire the shots.

• If fuse lies down hole, identify leads of misfired detonator and attach them to something
that can be traced.

• Drill relieving hole not less than 1.5m from misfire and parallel to them.

• Charge lightly.

• Take safety precaution.

• Fire the shots.

• Search series for detonators and unexploded cartridges.

• In case of electric initiation, wait for five minutes.

• Recheck circuits.

• If found OK, try to fire again.

• Detonate the shot holes.

• If found not OK, isolate/ remedy fault.

• Remove connections and check the circuits.

• Fire the shots.

ii. Blow the horn twice so that everyone shall be alert and get out of the
swing radius of the Excavator.
iii. Check all the dashboard lights and alarms are in working condition
Standard Operating Procedure Dept.: Mines Page No. Page 90 of 93
iv. Disengage the hydraulic lock lever

C. BEFORE LOADING:
Before starting of loading operation please check
i. All hydraulic function are working properly
ii. Any overhang, remove the overhang, if observed, before starting of
loading
iii. The stability of the face
iv. Cleanliness of the face, clean the scattered boulders, if observed
v. Any oversize boulders which may restrict the path of
dumpers/Excavator.
vi. Place the machine at least 3M away from the edge of the benches
vii. Give a signal to dumper operator so that he will take the dumper at the
loading point
viii. The distance between dumper and the excavator is maintain properly
for the smooth loading
ix. Prepare the loading platform of suitable height

D. DURING LOADING:
i. Avoid loading of oversize boulders
ii. Maintain the slope of the face to avoid rolling of boulders
iii. Avoid any undercuts/overhangs
iv. Always start loading from the top of the muck to avoid undercut
v. Always look out for any abnormal face movement to avoid slope
failure
vi. Watch out the ground stability at waterlogged faces, remove the
Excavator, if observed any abnormal movement of the face
vii. Do not overload the dumpers. Maintain centralized loading to avoid
any spillage on the haul road
viii. Don’t load the boulder on the top of the dumper. It may roll down
during the running of dumper
ix. After appropriate loading give signal to the dumper operator to leave
the loading place
x. Maintain 30M distance between two loading point
xi. Avoid loading below the face where drilling operation is in progress
xii. Always maintain a berm at the edge of the face

E. AFTER LOADING:

i. Clear any spillages during loading

ii. Clean the area for the next loading cycle and repeat the point no v to
point no vii of “BEFORE LOADING”.
