Measuring

ALWAYS use measurements when choosing which size to make.

Check out this blog post to see why you shouldn’t

guess based on ready-to-wear clothing size.

Chest: measure under the armpits around the

fullest part of the chest.

Waist: measure around the narrowest part of

waist - this is usually close to the belly button.

Hip: measure around the fullest part of the

hips and bottom.

Using The ‘Print At Home’ File
Printing
This pattern has been created in layers. This means that if you open it using Adobe Acrobat Reader on a computer
you can choose just the sizes (layers) you wish to print.

To access the layers facility click on the

symbol that looks like three diamonds
stacked on top of one another. You can
then switch off the sizes (layers) you don’t
wish to print.

Please note that whichever size(s) you

choose to print, you also need to
select the ‘pattern information’ layer. This
contains things such as page numbers,
labels and scale check squares.

You need to set your printer to

‘actual size’ or ‘100%’ to ensure
your pattern prints correctly.

Once you have printed, you need to measure one of the scale check squares on page 1 to ensure your pattern has
printed correctly.

All Lunar pattern pieces include a 6mm (¼”) seam allowance unless otherwise stated.

Using The ‘Copy Shop’ File

If you prefer to have your pattern printed on large paper then you need the ‘Copy Shop’ file. You can take this to
a professional printer to print on a single sheet of A1 paper.

Instructions
Pattern Pieces include a 6mm (¼”) seam allowance unless otherwise stated.

As with all patterns I suggest you read the instructions right through before starting.

1. Fold your front ribbing in half, wrong sides together,

matching the long edges. Press.

2. Leaving a 1cm (⅜”) tail at the beginning, pin the

ribbing to the neckline of the front body piece. All the
raw edges should face upwards. You need to stretch
the ribbing a little as you go. Don’t stretch the body of
the t-shirt. There should be a little left when you get to
the end.

3. Sew the ribbing to the body ideally using an

overlocker/serger. If you are using a regular sewing
machine then use a stretch stitch or a long, narrow
zigzag. This is important as it will allow your neckline to
stretch. Unless otherwise stated all seams should be
sewn using a 6mm (¼”) seam allowance. Repeat for
the back ribbing.

NOTE: You should have stretched your ribbing a little

when pinning. Take care NOT to stretch your main
garment fabric as you sew.

4. Flip the ribbing up and press. Topstitch, ideally using a

twin needle or alternatively a stretch/zigzag stitch.

Repeat with the back piece.

5. Lay your two pieces out flat, right sides facing up, with the back piece on top. (The back piece has less of a dip
along the neckline). Position your two pieces so that the arm marker on the back piece (blue arrow in the
diagram) is directly on top of the arm marker on your front piece. Baste the two layers together.

Basting means sewing together using a long, easily removable stitch. In this case, if you sew very close to the
edge you won’t need to remove it as it will be hidden when you attach the sleeve.

6. Match the notch in the centre of the sleeve piece with

the arm marker on your main garment. Pin right sides
facing. Match the corners on the sleeve piece with
the corners at the armpit. Pin from each armpit towards
the centre. Sew along the entire curved edge using
an overlocker or stretch stitch. Repeat for the second
sleeve.

7. Pin the sides together right sides facing and sew in
one go from the sleeve to the bottom.

8. Fold up approximately 1.5cm (⅝”) on each sleeve for

age 2 and smaller, or 2.5cm (1”) for age 3 and up,
and hem. Ideally use a twin needle. Alternatively you
can use a zigzag stitch or stretch stitch. I recommend
having your garment inside out and sewing on the right
side of the fabric.

9. Fold up the bottom of your garment 2.5cm (1”) as a

hem. Pin and sew using a twin needle or zigzag/stretch.

You’re finished!
